Postby thoughtreader » Mon Sep 12, 2011 2:09 pm

Scientist at the Mayo Clinic developed Glow-in the-Dark Kittens! They added rhesus macaque and jellyfish DNA into unfertilized embryos and the resulting kittens GLOW! and have resistance to FIV and AIDS! A trait that count be very helpful in AIDS research in both humans and cats.
Not to mention the are really cute! if not slightly creepy looking.

Holy s***, Batman! Glow-in-the-dark kittehs!

(Well, according to the one article, they glow under a special kind of light to see if the genetic modification worked. But STILL!)

Woah. My mind is officially blown for the day. I'm reminded of the XKCD rollover that says that at some point we officially entered the future.
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

between this and the new plant compound that selectively attacks cancer blood vessels my mind is blown and we have definitely entered the future.
The Tea Party already had me thinking we were heading towards a Neal Stephenson dystopia, the glow in the dark cats just seal the deal for some odd reason. :-p

I've been boycotting this thread because I developed an allergy to cats as an adult. BOO. I want any cat, glowing or not.

I love kitties! I'm glad they're not actually glow-in-the-dark, though. The glowing eyes of regular kitties are eerie enough. And can you imagine a glowing kitten swatting at your face to wake you up?
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

I did too. And then got 3 years of allergy shots (for everything, not just cats) and now I'm only very slightly allergic to them. I can have them again!

This would actually be useful, then I could tell which one was doing it before they ran away!

They glow under UV lighting, from what I understand. There was a glow in the dark dog developed a couple of years ago, I think. Or a rat. One of those. Maybe a dog-sized rat? :D
