2010 Olympics - Vancouver
Anyone watching? I LOVE the olympics!
The Opening Ceremonies were great, Canada! I let Tyler stay up to watch it with me. He enjoyed it, too. Although, I did tell him to stop asking me how they did everything, because I don't know how they did all the effects. They were cool, though!

Our stream got cut off just before the torch fake-out. Good on you, Canada, for an old-fashioned prank. The rest was pretty good, except for some of the music choices, which I thought a bit random.

I really loved it. I had no clue the opening ceremonies were yesterday until my teacher asked me if I was wearing my Canada sweatshirt in preparation for watching them. I thought that was quite serendipitous!
My favorite part was when they were projecting the ice breaking apart on the floor and everyone jumping from piece to piece. Also the whales after that were pretty fantastic. They really pulled off mixing 2D and 3D well!
It's really sad about the Georgian luger. I think it was great that they honored him, and how the Georgian delegation received a standing ovation for still walking in the parade of nations after losing one of their teammates.

Ours too. CTV had it set for a certain time and when the ceremonies went overtime, it just cut off. *shakes fist at CTV*Our stream got cut off just before the torch fake-out.
I really enjoyed the ceremonies. All the floor projections and dancing was pretty sweet.
I LOVED the fiddlers, someone called them the Nirvana Space Fiddlers which I thought was hilarious.
The aboriginal parts were surprisingly well done. Canada's relationship with First Nations people is a complicated one at best. It felt like they did more then lip service (which they usually do), but it still had trouble.
Doing French first, then English? That was lip service.
And speaking of lip service. Boo to lip synching everything.
One Duck to rule them all.

I'm in love with Meryl Davis. No one tell her.
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet him, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

Two quarters down and it's still 0-0.
USA has attempted 32 shots for goal. Switzerland has attempted 8.
Update #1: USA 1, Switzerland 0. USA gets the lead early in the third period.
Update #2: USA 2, Switzerland 0. Eleven seconds left to go.
Update #3: USA advances to semifinals. Great game, Switzerland. Hiller had a great game (42 saves).

A freaking awesome night for Canada. I could not believe my eyes when the US girls lost that time on the 2-man bobsled. f*** YEAH.

I've been following hockey significantly closer than I ever wanted to because my boyfriend and his housemate are seriously into it, and I was glad to see Canada crush Russia tonight. I hope they take the gold; they have a damned good team, and especially since it's their home turf and their sport, it would be nice to see.
Also, the women's short program was amazing.

Yeah. Yu-Na Kim was spectacular. She totally deserved the records and the gold. I was a bit shocked at Nagasau's scores - she was flawless and both Asada and Rochette had blips. I can't say I'm upset, though. I'm absolutely and utterly thrilled that Joannie Rochette got a medal. She will be a national hero and it's a skate any Canadian who watched it will never forget.
Truly fabulous.

Hockey today! I don't normally follow sports, but being out here with other people who are into it has gotten me excited.

Does it matter? Canada didn't qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

I know it's soccer. But it means USA 1 - Canada 0.
