You were scared of *whom*?!
We were/are all once newbies here and it's easy to feel intimidated by some of the older, more established members. Those of us who went into the chat experienced a similar, but different type of intimidation because you were talking to other members in real time vs. delayed responses.
I was pretty much scared out of my mind by Leto on the board.
In chat? Everyone, until people started talking to me. Then I just freaked out over Steve the whole three times I saw him signed on to AIM.
I'm trying to remember who else used to intimidate me. I want to say Kirsten and Ali, but I'm not 100% sure.

I had actually thought about starting a thread like this...
Not that it matters, in the slightest.
Anyway.. Who intimidates/intimidated me?
Leto, naturally. But, also Ali, Kelly, Kimmie, and Josh.
Yeah.
I have gotten over 2 of those, mostly, and one partly.
Then, there is Kirsten. Her, I am actually scared of. If she came up to me, I think I might cower.
Yeah.

All mods, but especially Ollie and Dave.
Jan scared the heck out of me, and then she yelled at me, and terrified me even more. Never quite got over it.
Ela really scared me, simply because I respected her so much. And Luet as well, for the same reason. I just wanted them to think well of me.
Anyone who came in the chat back in the day felt more accessible.

I don't remember being intimidated by anyone in particular, but pretty much by this whole place in general. I lurked a bunch and posted here and there. Then, I got comfortable and that was that.
Now, there are people that I would avoid getting into a argument with. I use the word argument because these people were never looking for a debate/discussion. I wouldn't say that I am intimidated by them, more that I am/was/is put off by them.

I consider it a compliment to even be mentioned in this thread, since I am probably the least intimidating person irl and I wish I was a bit moreso. I hope I don't intimidate anyone anymore. I just don't chat/aim because I would spend way too much time with it if I did.

I've had five pwebbers tell me I intimidate them at various times. I had no idea I was so scary!
I wasn't much intimidated by anyone to a noticeable degree. I would have been wicked intimidated by Kenn, I think, if not for the fact that we worked on the Epic together and thus became pen pals for a brief bit. And Ollie, way, way back on Ye Olde Pweb--when he was still Rahl and not a mod and I thought he was way, way older than me.

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

I was going to say I wasn't really intimidated by anyone specifically (although I was definitely intimidated by the board in general), but then you had to mention Leto. He was terrifying for the first little bit I was here. I did eventually get used to it, though.

Four years later and I still feel guilty. Thanks.

I think any of the mods intimidated me back in the day... and now here I am one, ah, the circle of life.
Since I joined right during Endercon time, I was pretty intimidated by anyone who went to that and were all friends in real life.

I don't recall being very much intimidated by anyone, but I think that has something to do with being an overly angsty, rebellious teenager when I joined.

Jebus at one point. Otaku at one point. I find Steve (boothby) intimidating in waves. Probably others, but I can't remember.
Leto is certainly a potent memory, but I seem to recall anger than anything else. Once I was on a personal (self-induced) hiatus of pweb, and I accidentally came across a post of his while searching the web for something. Almost replied right then and there because it pissed me off so much.
And Kelly: you have more than five. Don't ask me why, but hey, I'll admit I still find you a bit intimidating in certain ways.

No Brain, you made me nervous when I first joined. We argued semantics over the confederacy and slavery or something like that, once.
And Jebus always made me nervous. I think it was the avatar though.
And the mods of course.
I've only done chat a few times, but I wasn't really nervous about it, mainly cause I barely paid any attention to it. I think I was busy reading everytime I got invited to chat. :B

I was a little intimidated by Chibi (Tabitha), she was just so.. popular? Now she's a mess.
I was also wildly intimidated by Ollie. I also had a bit of a crush. (What!? He's adorable!)
Leto scared the bejesus out of me. But, taht's because I hate confrontation. Even internet confrontation.
Uhmm... I think that's all.
ETA: The reason I wasn't afraid of you, Der, was that I really thought you were annoying and that takes the edge off of scary for me.

I think the reason that I wasn't generally intimidated by people is because I'm older than almost everyone (exceptions being Ela, Steve, Qing jao maybe?). I AM horribly afraid of confrontation but I generally handle that by avoiding arguments. Although, after 8 years I feel pretty safe, secure and supported in expressing myself here, so I do indulge in an argument occasionally when I feel sure enough about my stance.
Out of everyone, I would have to say that Kelly and Ollie are the ones that I most hope for approval/acceptance from...mostly for them to think I'm smart enough, since I value that quality but also am insecure about it in myself. Those two in particular because I have come to know them fairly well and value their opinions.

Why? I'm having a hard time believing I'd intimidate someone. Amusement and annoyance I get all the time and I'm used to them, but intimidation is new territory for me.Yeah. That would be you.Me? Or one of those other Joshes that aren't around so much anymore?and Josh.

Shut up! You are not that much younger then me! I so thought you were older. My world is crumbling.Yeah I'm 22 (23 next week) instead of 16. Things tend to change that way lol.
I think Chibi intimidated me a bit as well, she was just so...known by everyone.
Also, Petra, LBT, citiepixie and... what was her name? Fallen angel? They were all so close and girlie, and they weren't around much when I first came, so they were like legends.

Yes, Kirsten, you joined during the great newbie-hate of '02...03? Whatever year it was. I do believe that is when I started eating newbies.
To be truthful, I actually did get in trouble for putting it in my sig.
Now, I just feel guilty for scaring some people off. Then again, the good ones (you) stayed.
