14. If I only get three hours of sleep one night, then the next night I should go to bed early in order to avoid oversleeping. And thus arriving an hour and fifteen minutes late for fieldwork. Damnit.
Nothing like the shock of laying in bed thinking, "it's light out. It must be Wednesday or I wouldn't be sleeping in." and then realizing, no, it's Tuesday and you must've turned your alarm off in your sleep instead of hitting snooze. Or like looking at your alarm clock that you set for 5 AM and seeing that it is, in fact, 8 AM.

There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

4. i am not superwoman. it doesn't matter how fast i read, i cannot--with my current nonstop schedule--read and report on FIVE 300+ page manuscripts per night. i will stop taking home more work than i have the time to do. if i feel like i'm being overloaded, i will calmly explain to my boss that i need to take a breather from the at-home work.
apparently that one didn't stick last time.

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

21. Don't forget to check the weather before you leave on your weekly 70 mile commute.
22. Don't let yourself get into sleeping patterns of, "Fall asleep at 9:00, wake up at 3:30." That's just a pain.

1. When people hem and haw about a question in an interview, make them answer it. The answer they're hiding could turn out to be important.
2. You can't please everyone. Be happy about the people that are happy, and just deal with the ones that aren't. By deal with, I mean "let them sleep with the fishes." (Actually, I mean either talk them into what you want or give their job to someone else.)
