I made this random pic in 2 minutes for my avatar but really you should have a fan art section.

How does a friends feature on a message board add anything to it?
I ask because I've been on pweb for nearly 9 years (holy crap, people. that is scary stuff!) and another message board for pretty much the same period of time. The other one has a "buddy list" feature that nobody has ever used on the 12 years that board exists. So, I'm not sure what value added we'd get here from that kind of feature?
I mean, making friends on the internet? Sure. Obviously I wouldn't still be here if I didn't think that you can make real friends on this message board... but... why do I need a list for that?
ETA: oh, thank goodness, only 9 years, not 10.

+1You don't generally make "fan art" by taking someone else's professional work and adding green text to it.
yeah it's weird knowing that i've been coming here for 10 years a full decade of my life... a THIRD of my life thus far has been spent with you folks. i'm glad people like me. and hey, my relationship with this place will last longer than my marriage. great.oh, thank goodness, only 9 years, not 10.
as for the friends list thing, i don't see it getting used. even in this site's heyday we were pretty much a small, tight knit bunch of people. practically a family. we don't need to set aside a list of people we're friends with cuz the entire member list would be on it.
maybe an enemy list. that would get used more. and would be much smaller.

I don't know if I would have anyone on my enemy list. Somebody hate me?
Anyway, what others have said about a friend list. It would be kind of pointless. Also, while we like attracting and welcoming new members, we're not really into "growth for growth's sake" - it isn't a contest to see who can have the most members, after all.
Kim, when did you join, again? I could have sworn it was later in 2002, but I could be mixing my memories of sheroes up with that.

Because we are all friends here... I don't think there is anyone who post here on a semi regular basis (or who professionally lurks ) that doesn't consider every one else their friend. There have been member who have rubbed some the wrong way or been a bit of a pain, but over all I'd say we are all friends. So all a friends list would lead to is a members list! Also why is there no friends system?

We already have a buddylist. People just need to log onto AIM more often so we can make use of it. It also might let Will feel less pathetic for constantly spamming the chat thread.
Ali, Kim joined around the same time I did in the summer of '02.
Also, holy crap it's a Resa! Hey you. =)

i think it sucks though that the chat is on AIM. i HATE AIM that's why i'm never ever ever going to be on AIM to chat with ya'll. it's just about the worst program out there for doing what it does. plus it's super outdated.
i bet half of the new people that come on this site don't even know what it is.

Did i not write that i just made it for my little picture. I have been a member on other forums and I enjoy keeping in contact with a certain person even if he doesnt post. Of course the private message feature could work too...
The more members we have that actually contribute to the forums the better it becomes. I might be over obsessed because of my own forum needing more members but I do think that every community needs to strive for something.

I think what Syphon means is that it isn't fan art to take somebody else's work (the drawing) and add the word "Bean" to it. That's not fan art, that's plagiarism.
Also, yeah, Ali. I joined in March 2002 at Sheroes and something like May here. So, not quite 9 years but pretty close! (Especially because I'm trying to pretend this semester is already nearly over.)

Fine. I fan art section would be good if someone could make me a signature
and I cant really link the original picture in my avatar can I? That took me 2 minutes as I said and obviously I didn't draw that as that would take for me even days...

Waffle, you can do whatever you want for your own avatar and signature (though I'll be adblocking anything obnoxiously large on my end, like that irrelevant bandwidth thing). However, any official fan art would need to be completely original and not based on someone else's prior work.
As for someone making a signature for you, something personalized like that probably wouldn't be good for a public fan art section either.
(You get an A for effort, though.)

A for effort.... Still an A.
Anywho, I doubt most of the people on this site even have time to make fan art. I know I don't, and I'm just a high school student, not a person with a full-time job/mother(which is a full-time job)/college student/insert whatever.

Many prolific digital artists have similar lives. And I've seen EG-related fanart other places before, and some is pretty damn good. But yeah, I'd see it as something that would probably attract more people to the site rather than be used a whole lot by the present members; if we had a need for one, we would've already had something like that.Anywho, I doubt most of the people on this site even have time to make fan art. And before getting a fanart section... a non-forum part of the site would probably exist again, first.
