Anyone play this freakin' awesome game? If so, what do you think? If not, and you have a 360, download it now. It's worth the 400 gamerpoints/$4.99. (there's also a version for gameboy and PSP I think, and the PC). It reminds me of an EG game, something the students would have played in their free time; and the display, the way the game is presented, is reminiscent, at least in my mind, of what the actual battles would have looked like to commanders; the symbols representing ships and missiles. It seems exactly like the one-ship view in the simulator is described. And as it gets more and more hectic and intense, and the screen fills with innumerable enemies all trying to get you, I can feel the intensity of those swarming battles the students were having. It starts off real slow, and before you know it you're swimming in enemies and you learn the strategy real quick (or you die.) My best score is about 2 million, and it seemed like an accomplishment at the time but looking at the leaderboard there's people with tens of millions of points and that seems unbelievable to me. (note, not retro evolved 2. the first one. i don't like the second one as much.)

Protip: If you own any of the Project Gotham games (well, anything past 2), you have a Geometry Wars game available to you already.
I remember getting hooked on the first GW game, everyone thought I was a big nerd - getting lost in a randomly playable arcade game easter egg in a racing game - but I loved it. Then, the second one came out and I got my brothers hooked on it - we'd play the demo repeatedly trying to best each others' top scores. Retro Evolved is an awesome way to suck up all your free time, especially if you're the competitive type with your friends.
