SWEEEEEEEEET. After much complaining to StarWarsShop.com about my order and its insane wait time (10 weeks, with repeated misinformation about when it would ship), plus that after I finally had enough and told them to cancel the order (which they "confirmed") I then got an email a week later saying THE ORDER HAD SHIPPED ANYWAYS. I made one more complaint, saying that while there was nothing I could do about it, I would never shop there again. Their response (the first that was actually of any "help")? THEY WOULD REFUND THE PURCHASE BUT THE ORDER IS ALREADY ON ITS WAY. FREE SEASON 1 DVDS OF STAR WARS:THE CLONE WARS!!!

The brand-new LDS temple is open for public tours this month! I had no idea they were building one, and I never thought I'd ever be near one in that short window before it's consecrated. I'm so excited to go see it! I've wanted to for years! We're going on Wednesday. :D

Yay! I was going to mention to all you Canadians that it was having it's open house, but I forgot. I was able to attend the open house of the Denver Temple when I was just a wee 4 years old. They are sure beautiful buildings!

It was funny because I saw the ad in the local paper and squealed out loud, and Mom and Dad!Rei were confused. Dad!Rei said he wasn't going to bother, since he'd see it another time, but then I told them how once it's consecrated only Mormons are allowed in. So now the whole family is going.

Both are quite excellent movies in a more lasting, different way than Top Gun.

Another great article about how women are f****** nuts

http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/04/14/mr ... tml?hpt=C2
"Girls might say they want a nice guy, but what they really want is the cool guy," said Arthur Malov, founder of New York Dating Coach, a relationship consulting agency with primarily male clients. "A jerk is rarely so bad that no one wants to hook up with him."

Now, some single guys are taking steps to avoid being lumped into the nice guy category. Malov's agency, which coaches single men from all over the U.S. and as far away as Japan and Norway, instructs clients to steer away from the polished, predictable image. The dating coach tells men to stop being so available and flexible. He advises the men to leave a little mystery because women, despite what they say, do desire the chase.

Malov says the nice-guy persona is the No. 1 problem cited by his male clients, and he explains why, using the game of poker.

"A lot of nice guys are showing all his cards and saying, 'What should I do?' " he says. "After that, nothing happens."

...

"Realize that women don't want you to hand over your power by being a Mr. Nice Guy in return for their affection, love and attention," said Dan Macon, who runs The Modern Man. "Sure, women want you to show them respect and love, but they also want you to be a man and take charge. If you can't do that, women won't want to be with you."

...

"The dichotomy isn't between good guys or bad guys," he explained. "It's between weak guys and strong guys."

...

Academic studies have reaffirmed that women prefer the bad boy archetype over the nice guy. A 2008 study at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces examined how college students perceived "dark" traits such as thrill-seeking behavior, deceitfulness and narcissism. The study found the female students preferred the males with these traits.

...

Despite this attitude, some dating coaches say that women should keep an open mind. The negative stereotypes of a nice guy aren't always true; the men aren't always timid or easy pushovers. While the nice guys may not be as forward or loud, their selfless personality can be valuable to a lasting relationship, they say.
Hmm, well I've never had a problem being timid or a pushover in a relationship, I don't defer my interests they're always clearly made known. I like going out on nice dates because I really love fine-dining and going to cultural events like museums, concerts etc. On the otherhand, I'm scrupulously honest, not thrill-seeking, and while I'm probably average in the narcissism range, I am always careful to make sure that narcissistic thoughts and behavior aren't seen by others.

Clearly I have a lot of work to do. First element to work on: tell lies, lots.
So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Oh yeah, definitely. Also, never call a woman back after sex; unless it's for more sex. That gets them chasing you - it won't be long before you'll be fending them off like crazed honeybees.

And the flip side of the coin

http://www.heartless-bitches.com/rants/ ... s/ng.shtml
Basically, the impression that I got from these comments is that the interests of these NiceGuys are almost identical to those of their "a****** rivals," and that they think of women the same way as well: basically, as potential "rewards" for all their hard work pretending to be a decent person. Basically, the negative responses were divided between 4 types of people (though you've probably already made these observations):

1) People who were oblivious to the fact that the rants weren't about genuinely nice people.

2) People who whine that whenever they befriend a girl, she starts going out with some guy who "just wants to get laid," and so then they "can't even get laid!" They should at least be aware of the irony here, but no; they're not even aware of the hypocrisy. As you basically said several times, you can tell the difference between a nice person and someone who is only pretending because the faker will complain about how they weren't rewarded for all their "effort."

Honestly, how can anyone devote so much time and effort into hiding their intentions and feelings towards someone, and then be surprised when these intentions go unfulfilled? For that matter, how can they think that it's an injustice that their intentions go unfulfilled when they're basically identical to those of the supposedly less-deserving "other guy"? These are the people who convinced me that NiceGuys know that they are assholes (rather than just being ignorant), and have some nerve claiming not to be.

3) Some f****** up people spouting weird s*** about how women need to be protected/ nurturing/ told what their place is/ (insert patronizing, puritanical gender role here), and how "that damned feminist movement is ruining everything."

4) People who think that women must be attracted to assholes because they got dumped once or twice. .
So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Benedryl. I love benedryl. A lot. Because it helps me sleep, eventually, and during that magical sleep, even the worst headaches go the hell away.

I don't think this quite fits in here (it's more a Things That I'm Way Excited About) but I'm going to a workshop on May 3rd that involves:
By the end of the session, participants will:
-Make an avatar
-Try Wordle
-Test a video game designed by teens and create their own
-Participate in a book review podcast
-Brainstorm a teen technology program to implement at their library

During the teen behavior training, learn how librarians can address undesirable behaviors in a way that will develop relationships with young adults. By the end of the session, participants will:
-Set the current experience of teens in the United State into a historical and cultural context
-Define the physical changes in the brain during adolescence
-Examine the effects of development on teen's social, physical and emotional behavior
-Discuss preventative measures to deter undesirable behavior
-Practice strategies for coping with, correcting and redirecting teen's undesirable behavior
-Learn to advocate for the needs of teens to key stakeholders
I only get to go because I was able to argue that it would be beneficial to the tween demographics (remember, I'm the Children's person, not the Teen person) and my awesome supervisor agreed. But the whole thing seems very interesting. I can't wait.
