Girly Stuff

Postby Young Val » Mon Mar 12, 2007 2:14 pm

there was a thread like this back at one of the old versions of the board. boys, you're certainly allowed in, but you've been warned that this is a place for girl talk. and all that the topic implies.

just to kick things off on a thoroughly girly note:

WHERE DOES MY BRAIN GO WHEN I GET MY PERIOD?

honestly. it just took me three hours to complete a report that should have taken 45 minutes, tops. i haaaaaaaaaaaaaate being on the rag, and i REALLY hate it when it shows up a day earlier than i expect it to. while i am work. and now that my period is here, my brain is gone and apparently i am useless for everything except eating and lying around in bed.

and i have so much more work to do.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Two words about "girly stuff": Diva Cup.

Use it. It's better for you and the environment.

I've heard about those.

I know someone who actually gets MOTIVATED when she is on her period. Honestly, if I'm bleeding that much from any point on my body I just want to go to sleep.

I know just what you mean, Kelly. But instead of having to worry about work, I just get annoyed that when I want to read a book, I forget the line just as soon as I've read it. I then find myself reading and rereading the same page until I give up to go watch a movie instead. Hopefully your brain decides to behave soon.

i don't have much experience with the diva cup as i found it a bit too bulky but one of my friends is a big fan of them. i think she's had hers for three or four years so far.

i'm a big fan of three different things...
1. the instead cup. it's not bulky like the diva cup did but the whole 'throw away after one use' thing is definitely lame.
2. cloth pads. they're super simple. the only issue i have is when i'm out and about if it's a heavy flow day. you can rinse them but... what can be done with wet pads? i dunno. i don't have a purse big enough to store extras, let alone wet ones.
[Side note: I hate being out and about on heavy days. Hate hate hate. And I was forced to shop all day the second day of my period. ARGH!]
3. sea sponges. best option of the three, I think. lasts for ages, very easy and very efficient. laughing or coughing can be a problem when it's full, though... so pads would probably still need to be worn, just in case.

Question and possible TMI: For whatever reason (stress seems unlikely, as i've had plenty of stress...) I now have my first period in ten months. I find it really difficult to deal with, as I have serious cramps. I have prescribed painkillers but would really prefer not to take them, since I'm as useful on them as not - drugged vs. in so much pain all i can do is curl up in bed. Heatpads help some. I'm drinking lots of water even though it makes me feel horrible. Is there anything you lovely ladies have found out that's a good way of dealing with your cramps?

Kel, I think losing your mind on you period is nature's way of preparing women for pregnancy brain. I've always had the best memory for names and appointments and how to get places, etc. Then I get pregnant, and BAM! I can't remember anything. It's so frustrating. Why pregnancy brain exists, I don't know. I'd like to kill it, though.

Nikki, try ketoprofen. Over-the-counter and can be taken WITH tylenol and ibuprofen. Pills are a lovely green color. Brand name is Orudis KT, I believe.

I am one of the luckiest people I know when it comes to that time of the month. I don't have horrible mood swings (if anything, i'm a little more "aww" about things), I don't crave things, and I don't get horrible cramps (although, horrible ones have been known to happen).

Although, lately I have been craving a lot of apple juice. It's not even close to that time of the month, so I don't know what's going on there.

I just got what is either the greatest or the worst mental image.

"Imagine, an office break room. In the room is a water cooler with a bunch of cups. But instead of the usual dixie cups, it's full of diva cups. Workers are standing around, drinking out of them without realizing."
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet him, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

I alternate. I either become really bitchy (pardon, but that's about how it is), or really nasty crampy. Sometimes, both. Heh.
And pregnant-brain... Oi. Yeah. definitely crazy.

when i gained weight, my bra size doubled, and for the first time in my life i was not flat-chested. it took a looooong time to get used to it. how to move and how to wear different clothing and all that. but now that i'm finally used to it, my weight is evening out again. i'm really happy about that part (i'll probably never be as skinny as i used to be, but that's ok. i'm not 16 anymore. i just know i've been slightly heavier than was natural for me, so i'm glad i'm back in a healthy medium. anyway--) but i'm pretty sure that as the weight comes off, my bra size is gonna shrink back down as well.

farewell, my breasts. our time together was brief, but i shall always remember you fondly.

Ah, I kinda know what you mean. I've been losing some weight, and mine are getting a bit smaller.

The first place I gain weight, the last place I lose it.

It's absolutely ridiculous. I mean, God knows I was never meant to be flat-chested but I get very, very annoyed that they just don't ever seem to stop developing.

Anyways, I find myself actually quite happy when "that time of month" finally starts because I'm so moody and crampy and miserable the week before. The day of and the day after I cheer up and am much more clearheaded.

I have a difficult time gaining weight, and a difficult time losing it. I originally went on birth control when I was fifteen because my period was unpredictable. Like, it would come, I'd bleed for two weeks (yes, two weeks. My longest was 17 days), then two weeks later I'd get it again, bleed for a week, and then go two months. And then bleed for another two weeks. Two weeks was generally how long it lasted... Ugh. And during the whole time, I couldn't eat, so I'd lost five or ten pounds, and take until the next period to gain it back, and... and I can't afford to lose that kind of weight, because I'm already a stick with boobs.

But now, in the past year, or so, I've actually maintained at between 107 and 110. It doesn't matter if I eat like a pig; I don't gain weight. It doesn't matter if I eat an apple and a granola bar a day for three days; I don't lose weight. I prefer this.

My PMS is terrible, though. I act out a little, but the worst part is that every other or every third period, I get chocolate cravings.

I'm allergic to chocolate.

...

I hate that on every period I feel like I've been punched in the abdomen ( damn cramps) and I want to eat everything sugary. Not fun.

Elena, I completely understand on irregularity, it's more than annoying.

this is not good timing. i just found out some extremely upsetting, nauseating news (see an upcoming bob post) and my period is due at the end of the week...which will make it that much harder not to break down in tears at all the wrong moments.

Me toooooooo! My sister is all of 5'1" and 95lbs soaking wet. When she was pregnant with her first baby boy she was SOOO adorable with her big ol' preggie belly. I just loved it. Sadly, I've missed this entire pregnancy and she should be having her second baby boy sometime this or next month. It's so exciting! I look forward to being a mommy so so so much.
