People I Miss

Postby starlooker » Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:06 am

Molly Ivins -- God, I loved her wit.

Mr. Rogers -- Reassuring presence to the "child that is in me still... and sometimes not so still."

Peter Jennings -- Reassuring presence to my adult self
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

George Carlin - Explanation not required

Tupac - Taken away in his prime

Chrétien - I know he's still around somewhere, but I miss having a leader I can respect.

Ditto on Sagan.

Bob Ross - the most soothing thing ever put on TV. Gym Class Heroes tribute, "To Bob Ross with Love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z5-5K6O6h4

Bill Hicks. Although he was probably tripping so hard at the time his consciousness is still out there somewhere.

Hunter S. Thompson. So wanted to meet him.

Jim Henson. It's his birthday today, so I think it's fitting.

Does anyone remember the title of the duet Bert and Ernie sang when Jim Henson died? I can never remember it, but it's really sweet and sad...

There's a lot of clips from his funeral on youtube. I'll see if I can find it.

~edit~ Here's a couple clips of the voice actors doing Jim's favoirte songs here and here. EL, is the song you were thinking of in there?

It was on the regular Sesame Street show. I think it might be "That's what friends are for"? But I'm not sure.

I can't find that one... I'm sure it's out there somewhere though.

I was just thinking the other day about how I miss Mr. Rogers, too. There were some other people I was thinking about, but now I can't remember who...

Peter Jennings -- Reassuring presence to my adult self
He was the first person I thought of, we watched so much of him though out school.
On 9-11, his was the voice I heard in the radio in my car and who I watched through all the coverage in the days after. He looked so tired, but was determined to keep going. Somehow, watching him was reassuring even while the world was falling apart. I've loved him since.
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

Roald Dahl. Finally watched Fantastic Mr. Fox last night, loved it, got inspired to watch James and the Giant Peach, and have been reminiscing about my love of his books a lot lately.

I really miss my half-brothers. They are 9 and 11 and both have Asperger's. I haven't really seen them in a year or two. I saw them regularly (a couple times a month or so) from 2001 to around 2007. My father eventually refused to let me see them because I don't want to have anything to do with HIM. I ran into my stepmother at the store yesterday (their mother), who I get along with very well. I actually continued meeting her for lunch for another year or two even when I couldn't see the boys. I talked to her for an hour and she said she has worked it out with my dad so that I can see the boys on occasion. I really hope it works out.

I'm totally monopolising this thread, but I'm so homesick. I'm watching Extreme Home Makeover and I miss my mom so much. Did she watch this tonight too? Was she remembering all that time we spent together when she was sick, like I am?

Home soon...
