Didn't Petersen abandon the project some time ago? And I'm pretty sure that Card has said since then that it was still being made, just with a different director. I think announcing that the film is scrapped because of that "new" development is jumping to conclusions, especially since this came out a day later:
Producer says Ender's Game not over
(Beware: the article is followed by the usual "Card's a gay-hating nazi" discussion)

Movie Update - February 25, 2009
I have finished the latest (and best) revision of my Ender's Game screenplay, which I have turned in to Odd Lot Entertainment as the first step in their option of the film. We have assembled a team of producers who understand the story and I believe we have our best chance yet of getting a good movie made. — Orson Scott Card

Odd Lot Entertainment has the following credits:
Green Street Hooligans
Buried Alive
Undead or Alive
Suburban Girl
The Open Road
Living Hell
The Spirit
Green Street Hooligans 2 (in production)
their five titles in development (ender's game not yet listed for them) are:
Buck Rogers
Sense And Sensibilidad
The Lavender Hill Mob
Einstein: His life and Universe
Imaginary Larry

(about a mile away from where I currently work. :-p)
Deborah Del Prete brought Green Street Hooligans to USC for my class with Leonard Maltin, she's a solid producer.
The Spirit, however, was big budget and an absolute disaster. Lionsgate was not pleased. we shall see how this develops.

I just saw this on Taleswapper, and was coming to post it here, and realized you're all as fanatic as I am and probably have seen it already.

If they ever get far enough in Beans story I would love to play Achilles. I even have a scar on my leg that suits his. I was hit by a car and shattered my bone. I'd only be useful for Shadow Puppets.

Gosh, I'm sorry that happened...but wouldn't it be so cool if you played Achilles?
Oops. I didn't realize you were new.
Welcome to Pweb Fly Molo.
Love your name.

Shoot! It's late in the day and I had meant to mention this earlier, but I was out watching one of my kids' friend play a VERY mean guitar at a local bar, and I just got back.
Here's the deal: I was contacted by Marvel Productions earlier today about my designs for the Battle School!
Apparently, there's a green light on the project, and they're starting into pre-production development work. ILM is slated to do the ships (I'm scheduled to visit with them for about a week, mid-April. w00t!!), and Phil Tippet Studios is contracted to design some physical Bugger elements.
They mentioned Favreau as the director, but not in a way that I'm 100% sure about it.
More as it develops!

I am saddened to say that he had me going for a good paragraph or two. ILM always gets me excited, though.

You are a very bad man. I was lurking sometime after April Fools day and didn't see your post date.

Scott was right. The actors had been born
... but back when PWEB started, I'm not sure all of them had been potty trained.
