I don't think that my parents could name Darth Vader either. They might be able to guess that he's from Star Wars, but that would likely be the extent of their knowledge.My parents are non-Star Wars people. In fact, this is a story from when Paul and I were first married...
My parents decided to buy us a TV, so we went to the store and showing on EVERY. SINGLE. SCREEN. was Empire Strikes Back. I think they had just released the original trilogy on DVD or something. I say to Paul "Watch this... Hey! Mom, who is that on the screen?" She glances up and says "I don't know . One of your space guys?" It was Darth Vader.
Paul's jaw hit the floor. It's one thing never to have seen Star Wars, but to not even recognize Darth Vader...

I actually like it for probably the silliest reason ever and people just assumed over the years I liked it for other reasons I never corrected them over. I see no problem with this, given the silly reason I like it still makes me like it quite a bit.

I can sort of see it now that she mentions it. Two boys meet a girl and begin courting her. Boy A kisses girl. Boy B gets jealous and persues girl that much harder. Boy B and girl declare their love for each other. Boy B decides to be the better man let boy A have the girl, but the girl turns out be boy A's long lost sister.Star Wars is a chick flick?
Ah man, now the next time I see it, I'll be reminded of this and think of it in terms of a cheesy chick flick...

Oh boy, can I get someone to photoshop an ewok into all of my pictures? That would be the best.

Re: Star Wars
We showed Star Wars (Ep. IV) to Ginny, (who is 3 1/2) this week. I tweeted a few of her choice quotes while watching it, and now here they are for you to enjoy.
"I like the part with the robots. Because one of the robots is R2D2! But I don't like the Red R2D2."
"What happened to the Gold Guy?"
"I don't like this mean Darth Vader. I like the nice Darth Vader that we saw in the parade."
(About Chewy) "He's dressed as a lion!"
"Now can we pretend Rosie (the roomba) is R2D2?"
"They're having a stormmaster fight!"
"They're going to break the space rock!" (attack the death star)
"And in the end, Princess Leia got married to the blond guy."
She LOVES R2D2. There's something about that droid that really appeals to kids. She's been talking about him all week.

Re: Star Wars
Tyler started calling R2D2 "Tortilla" when he was about 2. We have no idea why, but we still all call him Tortilla to this day.
I love Ginny's thoughts on the movie. I bet she's fun to watch movies with!

Jayelle, your daughter is awesome.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

I always loved R2D2 and Chewbacca when I was younger for a couple of reasons. First, they are a robot and essentially big foot. How awesome is that? But more importantly, since they both speak they're own language, you can make up what they say in your head. I think younger kids' imaginations just run wild with that.She LOVES R2D2. Hey, you bite your tongue. You can take the Ewok out of the Jawa land but you can't take the Jawa land out of the Ewok. *nod*

Ralph McQuarrie is dead
CBS has a gallery of his Star Wars related work here, which is pretty cool: http://www.cbsnews.com/2300-207_162-10011529.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also, mostly unrelatedly, this artwork here is gorgeous: http://io9.com/5889747/breathtaking-art ... -star-wars" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That book is going on my wishlist.

Re: Star Wars
I want to find one of the bootleg fan-cut versions that keep some of the added VFX and remastering of newer releases, without all of George's stupid editing decisions.

Nomi crocheted the whole set for my kids and my niece and nephew. 3 sets total! (I paid her, though!) I love them!

They were an absolute chore to crochet but they turned out really well. I don't think I ever want to do it again, though.

Would it be cannibalism if I partook in these?
I suppose it's a good thing I'm trying to watch what I'm eating (which makes it sound like I'm eating things I watch as entertainment when really I just mean I need to be careful about what it is I swallow).
