So, what do you do when people RSVP to bring their children and you did not invite their children (and also don't want children at the wedding)?

Cry?

I really have no idea.

Search the Internet wedding sites for an answer to that question?

Oh, good night. You'd think the people would at least call and ask if they could bring the children if they weren't specifically invited to the wedding. We were happy to have kids come to our wedding, but our invitations specified "and family."

Offer some babysitting ideas if they're from out of town?

We invited out of town kids but not in town kids... I dont' really want to call my dad's work friend and tell her that her kid isn't invited to our wedding... But I might have to.

Tikes. That's kind of... presumptuous of her, or is it just me? I feel like it's one thing when it's family: my 3-month-old nephew was at our reception, as was the year-old son of one of my bridesmaids. But it's a bit different when it's someone less close.

I'd still say you can give them babysitting ideas, even if they're in town. "We're so glad you can come! My friend's sister/brother is an excellent babysitter if you need one for the kids..."

I've decided what song goes best with my wedding pictures. And I feel a little lame, because after I confess it, I will have NO street cred.

Lol, I LOVE this song. It's probably going to be a first dance song whenever we decide to get married.

Heh, talk about having no street cred. Our first dance song was "It Might Be You" by Stephen Bishop, also known as the theme from Tootsie. It was old even when I picked it. A lot of you have probably never heard of the movie, let alone the song. :D

My engagement ring!

I got it while in Boston this past week, in a completely random and unexpected turn of events. I was hanging out with my best friend and she persuaded me to go look at rings, since I didn't have one yet. No pressure, just me and her, goofing off and looking around. She took me to a store she loves, Na Hoku, a jewelry shop that originated in Hawaii. Most things there are inspired by nature, either subtly or strongly. I saw my ring and I guess I just sort of misted over. Julie convinced me to try it one. The sales girl was sweet, and imagine my shock when the ring slipped on my finger like it was meant to be there. (None, I mean NONE, of the sample rings at other stores would slip over my knuckle. Not even close).

The ring isn't anything I thought I'd want. I was sure I wanted something bezel-set that sat low so I wouldn't snag it on anything. But the ring was gorgeous, simple and classic with an unexpected twist by way of the engraving (maile leaves, which represent love, honor, and respect). I just fell completely in love with it. I later brought David to the store and he loved it, too. It was within our budget, so we just bought it then and there.

I can't stop looking at it. It's so sparkly!

Because I am at work right now, I can't see the photos you posted. I went to the company website and am trying to narrow down which one it is based on what I know of you. I'm very invested in this now, because I see a couple and think, "Nooooo! Kelly can't wear that one, it's awful!"

Ha!

Helen, it's this one: http://www.nahoku.com/collections/na-ho ... -ring.html (with a very small diamond).

I hope it isn't one of the awful ones!

I generally am not a huge fan of solitaires, but I like this one a lot. The band is just so pretty! And the sparkling. You can never have too much sparkling. Yay!

Also, it blows my mind how expensive engagement rings are.

Oh wow, I absolutely love the ring! The band is amazing and I love the setting.

I told David (quite seriously) that I'd marry him with a cigar band. The ring was important to him, so we got one. And I do LOVE it. But I wouldn't bat an eyelash if we hadn't gotten one at all.

My friend's husband proposed with a plastic ring from a quarter machine. She wore it the entire year-long engagement and laughed whenever anyone asked her when she was getting a "real" ring.

Anyone have any tips on where/how/what to clean an engagement ring with. I pulled out my wedding band when I was home this weekend and my engagement ring really needs to be cleaned!

This is pretty much my attitude : ) I would be happy with the ring I already have!

If it's expensive/diamond, I would stop at any jeweler you like and ask them to clean it. Or if the jeweler you bought it from is local, stop there and ask. They should do it for free. If it's a different jeweler, they might charge a small fee but they might not.

If you aren't worried about it, you can use one of those tub jewelry cleaners that you buy at the store but they always warn not to use on gemstones, so I would use at your own risk. I only use those for silver without stones (and I don't own gold). Silver with gemstones, I use a silver polishing cloth for. For my wedding set, which is white gold and diamond, I use soap and water and an old toothbrush...because I'm too lazy to do what I recommended for you. :D

Kelly: Phew! You dodged the bullet!!

Kim: I use a red tub thing of jewelry cleaner from walmart.

Have I ever talked about my ring on here? Or his ring, for that matter?

Less talk, more pictures. :P

Think you engaged and married ladies could all post a picture again or provide a link? Or send them to someone so we can play a match that ring finger* with the owner game. Which wouldn't work but I can pretend!

*Middle fingers need not apply.

Beautiful ring, Kelly. Simple, clean lines, and great detail.

Ack.

Just realized I can no longer take my ring off.

(Same day that I actually had to really work to button my pants for the first time. It's going to be a long seven months.)

Also, what's fun right now is that since this is the first summer we've been married, my ridiculously tan husband now has a bee-you-tiful tan line under his ring. It makes me giggle.

I love the ring, Kelly!

Kirsten, most everyone I know goes to Claires (or similar) and buys a cheap ring to wear for pregnancy. I wore my real ring on a chain during my first pregnancy. I didn't grow out of my ring during my last pregnancy, though.

Beautiful. :) I'm fascinated by how earthy and sturdy Jan's is, in contrast to Nomi's almost stained glass, art nouveau look.

Nomi, you mentioned yours is white gold. What's yours, Jan? Is it a silver? Also, did you guys mention recently, how much of a role you played in picking them out?

I guess this is me now saying more words, ha.

Mine's white gold too. I didn't want the sticky-outy style of diamond, so when I saw this one when we were ring shopping, I totally fell in love with it. We went shopping together before Paul proposed and he went back and bought that one and that's what he proposed with.

This is a second wedding set that I got when we had a bit more money (actually with my failed lasik refund). My original engagement ring was Mark's mom's original engagement ring diamond, which he sent me (we were still long distance) to have re-set in a setting that I liked. Then, I flew out to CA and gave it to him so that he could propose.

My current set was bought on ebay around 2001-ish from an estate sale. When I got it resized the jeweler told me that it's antique because the gold was difficult to stretch due to age.
