Yea, but electricity stole from us one of our two means of reproducing; the fact that about half the time we couldn't see how god-damned fugly we all are. Alcohol, the second way to trick an Irish man and an Irish lady into bumping into each other repeatedly until one party expels something into the other (the Catholic Church doesn't like us knowing too many of the details involved), had to pick up the slack. Hence our crippling alcohol problem, which is th source for much stereotyping hilarity.
