Strange food you will eat that appalls someone else
Strange food you will eat that appalls someone else
either because you enjoy eating it or you enjoy the appalled reaction of someone else.
Liver is probably the number one food that I've found grosses most people out. raw even more so, though I've only ever eaten a small bit of raw calfs liver, it was sort of buttery, very smooth rich flavor.
I can gross out my family by eating a steak medium rare (not even rare, they see pink and that's all it takes), so it's not so hard to find something to freak them out, just about anything will do.

I don't know if I eat anything that appalls people, but a few things I've eaten get some strange responses. Whenever I eat (like in a sitting, at once): a block of cheese (around a pound), a largish loaf of bread, a half-shaker of table salt, one of those garlic dip things from Papa John's (I find their pizza more appalling, personally).
Oh, and cottage cheese. I don't understand why some people hate cottage cheese so much; it's great! But I also don't know why I always see it in salad bars... I don't know if I've ever seen anyone else get any.
Some people have also been skeptical of how great tapioca pudding is; yet they refuse to try it.

Peanut butter and honey sandwiches. They were a childhood staple - i thought for everyone! Got to college and all my friends were disgusted. Don't know why. It's great! Particularly on toast. Mmm... I think i know what i'm having for breakfast.

OMG! yes! wonderful childhood staple. I especially liked how if you took a sandwich for lunch the honey would have soaked all through the bread and made it sort of like edible honecomb (I know it's edible anyway but it's like chewing wax and tough to swallow)Peanut butter and honey sandwiches. you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

I can put ketchup on just about everything, and in great amounts. You name it, I can put ketchup on it: salad, steak, roast beef, bread...
The only things I can't put ketchup on, for some reason, are breakfast material: cornflakes, omelets, and the like. It just looks disgusting.
Also, I get grossed out by avocado (as mentioned some time ago in the Hate thread), oat meal porridge, and pig in all of its different forms.

How can you be a fan of cottage cheese and then say THAT! Heh, I always load up on the cottage cheese at salad bars. Mmmm...cottage cheese.Oh, and cottage cheese. And I haven't made a PB & honey sandwich in a long time. I need some bread.

Jan's sure-to-disgust sandwich filling:
1. Can of Ham (the cans that look like tuna, but are ham)
2. Package of Cream Cheese
3. Chopped up dill pickles
Blend with a hand mixer.
Spread on toast, bagels, etc.
Mmmm.... I love it. And it grosses Paul out to no end.

I really like game meat. My old roommate and I would make deerburger pizza all the time. Our friends would be appalled. (We grew up in a small town where hunting was kind of the major pastime.) We wouldn't tell them when we had cookouts that the burgers were deer, but we got to chuckle on the inside when they talked about how lean and delicious they were.
People always give me weird looks when I talk about turtle stew. I once caught a turtle that was about the size of my torso. (It took four of us about an hour to finally get the sucker.) We kept it alive for a couple of months, but eventually made some turtle stew out of it. The girls cried. The boys were merry. The turtle was tasty.
My old roommate also always used to tease me about the poor man's honey-and-peanut-butter sandwich: corn syrup and peanut butter. And then I made him try one. He now knows the deliciousness of the sandwich.
And Jan, my wife does something similar to that. She'll spread cream cheese on slices of ham, then wrap it around a slice of dill pickle. It's really not too bad.

Some people have found it weird when I've mentioned eating rabbit. I don't think it's weird though. They just don't like the idea for eating aything that's cute. I also used to eat shark, which people also thought was strange.

My whole family is grossed out when I dip fries in my ice cream. Almost everyone I know around my age does this.
I've never heard of a peanut butter and honey sandwich, although it doesn't sound like it would be bad.

deerburger, :drools: made hamburger helper much tastier.
I'm sure I've had it on pizza since my mom made pizza quite often growing up and we usually had deerburger in stock in the freezer. deerburger is good in tacos too. Thin slices of deer loin, lightly salted and peppered and dredged in flour then fried in a cast iron skillet are also phenomenal. Nowadays my parents lay in much more meat in supply as they buy half a cow in the spring with one of my uncles buying the other half then they split the meat in the fall after its butchered. Lasts most of a year in the freezer out in the garage. so it's probably been a while since we put deer burger on pizza.

I don't mind it, I just hate that people always bring it up when they're talking about my rabbit. Yes, I have had rabbit before, and it's delicious. No, I would never consider eating my rabbit outside of starvation problems. Some people have found it weird when I've mentioned eating rabbit. I don't think it's weird though. They just don't like the idea for eating aything that's cute.

Rabbit is tasty, squirrel isn't bad either, though kinda chewy, and not a lot of eating on one anyway. Both are trumped by the utter deliciousness of fried frog legs. mmmm omg, so delicious. And after they're cooked (like you would cook fried chicken) they're even better cold from the fridge the next day.
Gigging frogs is an awful lot of fun too.
dammit it's been years since I had frog legs.

I absolutely love scrapple, and I didn't realize it was only an eastern Pennsylvania thing til I got some in North Carolina, and my friends refuse to even taste it.
For those of you who don't know, and are too lazy to Wikipedia it, picture this:
Take a pig, and cut off all the good meat... That goes to make pork chops, ham, bacon, etc.
Now take the left over stuff, the scraps of meat... that goes to make questionable sausages and hot dogs.
Now take all the random stuff that's left after the scraps - the internal organs, the brain, the bits of flesh still clinging to the bone - mince all that, throw it in a pot and boil it down. Add cornmeal and spices, form it into a small, mottled grayish semi-solid loaf, and you've got Scrapple! You cut off slices of it, throw them in a frying pan for about 15 minutes, and you have hot, greasy deliciousness.
I've also had Kopi Luwak, and can say without a doubt it's the best coffee I've ever had.

As for my food:
- liverwurst sandwiches
- raw noodles and rice (just to snack on)
- Oysters on a half shell (basically, raw)
- And the strangest one raw ground beef (but only when it is in the pan and starting to cook)
I realize the health concerns and that that one will probably gross almost everyone out; but you asked about strange food I am willing to eat.

I love Bubble tea. Actually I think you introduced it to me in some way. Or at least made me try Taro for the first time.Bubble tea.
It's so good.
Other things I eat that gross others out:
Liverwurst and Cream Cheese (thanks to A Wrinkle in Time)
I like anchovies on pizza.
Cheddar Cheese on Apple Pie
Sushi used to gross people out, but it's gotten so much more mainstream these days.

I <3 corn dodgers, though most people look at me wild eyed.
Basically, think of cornbread (keep the sugar out, please), but instead of baking it, you throw it on a griddle with salt and bacon grease. So absolutely delicious, though it's probably a heart attack waiting to happen.

Maybe it's because you refer to it as a lubricant. I did like mayonnaise... now I don't even want to think about it, or what you do with your sandwiches.Speaking of which, why does mayonnaise gross people out? It's the best sandwich lubricant out there, mostly because it has almost no taste.
Edit:
Raw rice? Or raw noodles with cooked rice? ...how do you even eat raw rice, just swallow it?- raw noodles and rice (just to snack on)

My roommate hates mayonnaise specifically because it has almost no taste. What's the point is her stance. And I do kind of have to agree with her, although I do not have strong feelings on the matter.Speaking of which, why does mayonnaise gross people out? Both are raw and I do not know I just eat it, although I have to admit that when it comes with rice it is mostly Minute rice, which is softer.Raw rice? Or raw noodles with cooked rice? ...how do you even eat raw rice, just swallow it?- raw noodles and rice (just to snack on)
