A question of Jane's intentions
Why exactly did Jane basically let the Starways Congress know about Miro's violations of law in dealings with the Pequinos by allowing the satellite data to fall into the hands of people who understood what was happening? This led to the problem of the Lusitania fleet (I haven't yet finished Xenocide, so it may lead to Jane's death as well). Scott hasn't yet even mentioned this fact since it happened.

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
That's one aspect of the plot that never made much sense to me either. The only rationale I can come up with is that it forced the Lusitanians into trusting and working with Ender, and Starways Congress would have found out eventually anyway. The evidence was there, Jane just pointed it out.
But you're right. As far as I remember, no one calls Jane out on the fact that she's the one who brought the fleet down on them, but of course, probably only Ender and Miro know that, and they're not the type to point fingers when it won't help solve the problem.

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
Not alerting the Starways Congress would have given Lusitania more time to take care of the Descolada and form relations with the piggies. I suppose it was used as a literary element in that it sped up the story. Also, I guess super-intelligent machines who exist within the most fundamental physics of reality can make mistakes too

Before any one says anything more....FINISH Xenocicde you'll be glad you did.
There is a line I would use from the book but finish the book first then ask the question. It's a line that makes since to me once to you get to it. The logic in your question is answered

I've read Xenocide a few times and I can't think of what you're referring to. Maybe it's been too long.

Hardest to get through? Xenocide is my favourite out of all the books except for Ender's Game itself.

out of all of the books in Ender's Series it's a grind to get through. Slowest pace and if your not committed (like my wife, she got half way then lost interest) then you wont make it to CofM, which is one of my favoritesHardest to get through? Xenocide is my favourite out of all the books except for Ender's Game itself.

See, Xenoxide is my favorite of the Ender series, while I found CotM very hard to get through.

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
really, interesting. For me I was crack baby when I got my hands on CotM. Which is why the Shadow series was downed and finished really fast compared to Enders

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
Funny, I was just discussing this with a friend. His favorite book is Xenocide, whereas I lost interest halfway through on my first reading. I've learned to love it more, but I still prefer CotM.
I think it had to do with Qing Jao and Wang Mu, and something with the pacing about 1/4 of the way through.
Same thing happened for me and my wife (who has yet to finish it) upon our first read throughs of Xenocide. The pace is very slow. I kept going because I wanted to get through it (addicted to the series) she's now put the book down and only wants to read it via audible audio book.

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
ya I now have Xenocide, CotM, and working on Ender's Game for audible. Wife want's to go back from the beginning and re-hear them from the beginning instead of just re-picking up the book. Still agreed expensive.

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
So something that has been bugging me in Xenocide that I can't seem to find an explanation for. Jane shows the evidence of Miro and Ouanda's interference, so congress sends the fleets. However, when Miro is hurt the piggies tell him that have have in the past crossed the fence and roamed Milagre unrestricted, we can assume since it's been there. Why didn't anyone just point that out as being the reason for the "advancement", they could have easily learned everything that the humans were accused of on there own. Therefore, there could easily be the argument that there was no interference, no?
Help me out here, it's been really bugging me.

Re: A question of Jane's intentions
Pretty sure that allowing them to cross the fence would also constitute interference.

They didn't "allow" them, they had been doing it all along unbeknownst to the the colonist. They had no clue at all the piggies were doing it.

Cultural contamination was taking place, which was the only metric the Starways Congress really cared aboutThey didn't "allow" them, they had been doing it all along unbeknownst to the the colonist. They had no clue at all the piggies were doing it.
