Chicken Soup

Postby steph » Tue Nov 21, 2006 3:44 pm

Anyone else sick? Come here for sympathy and tissues.

Tyler and I are both sick. It's hard taking care of a sick toddler when you're sick yourself. I had no idea! And of course my mom is out of town, so I have no help while Brian's at work. On top of that, Brian has grandparents in poor health and a pregnant sister, so I may be spending Thanksgiving at home. All. Alone.

So, for anyone else who is sick, here, have some chicken soup. I made it myself. Oh, and here's a tissue for that runny nose.

Aww... I hope you feel better soon!

I've got a bit of a cough (which doesn't seem to be going away as quickly as I might like).

Being vegetarian, I'm going to have to pass on the chicken soup, but I bring offerings of honey-lemon tea.

Now you post this. I was sick last week, and craving chicken soup with none in the house, and husband working nutty hours. I settled for ice cream.

Get to feeling better.

I made chicken soup Sunday and it killed the cold that hadn't taken hold. :)

The key to making good soup is to make sure you're using bones too, you can't make good soup without bones, it's just impossible.

mmm homemade chicken soup and I have 2 qts of broth in the freezer for any emergency illness that might crop up in the rest of the fall/winter.

this made me wonder if there were any receipe threads. now or in the past. i would think that's be a good idea. i guess the thought was due to the fact that when i think of chicken soup i think of my family's chicken noodle soup, which we make from scratch. *shrug* anyway. that's all i have to say.

This thread makes me wonder: what do vegetarians eat when they get sick?

Well, I can't speak for all vegetarians, but I'd have to say it depends on what I am sick with. If it isn't a stomach thing, I like minestroni or pasta or bread. If it is a stomach thing, I don't like anything (so I eat saltines).

I guess what I think of as the equivalent of chicken soup is some nice hot tea, preferably tea that has honey in it (feels good on a sore throat) and lemon. Or maybe an herbal/minty tea. Best stuff ever.

That was a rhetorical question. I was just joking.

May I please just have a fortnight off before I have to finish my classes and finals and paper? I would really, really appreciate it... time to actually sleep as well as do homework would be lovely...

I'm largely okay. Just feeling a bit ill, which is probably due to the stress of class and the like...

I am feeling wretched. Could be stress, could be something I ate. Who knows. But it made last night crummy, and it's making tonight crummy. My morning was okay, possibly since I didn't eat. So I'll pass on the chicken soup, but mutual sympathy is fine.

hydrogen peroxide has been my LIFESAVER this fall. haven't gotten sick once yet, and i'm pretty much perpetually under the weather from august through may.

one very fond childhood memory (or tradition of memories) of my mother is of how she would take care of me when i was sick.

she'd put fresh, cool sheets out on the living room couch and called it "the sick island." then, the sick person, me or my sister, although sometimes my dad, too--my mother never did this for herself--would lie on the couch all day with a steady supply of favorite books and toys stacked nearby, a favorite movie popped into the vcr, as well as tons and tons of gingerale and saltines and a bucket, just in case. and then i never really had to leave the couch all day. hence the "island" bit.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

That was a rhetorical question. I was just joking.
 Darn it, I always take things far too literally. Eh well, that's ok.
Also, I have actually had people ask me that question and mean it, so maybe it wasn't that silly of a mistake.

Anyway, I do kind of like the smell of chicken soup (and that fact really confuses me), but then I actually think about what it is and then I don't like it as much. Tis strange.

I guess this a combination sick/cold day thing, but Tuesday was such a hot chocolate day. And I had some at breakfast. It's so nice to just sit there with the warm cup in your hands and sip the chocolate really slowly. Too bad there weren't marshmallows.
