ARCs are advanced reader copies, so, not the final version but pretty close to it; the publishers push them on people in the position to buy or help promote books. I have the e-book ARCs to a few books and I'm trying to read them on Adobe software made for e-books, only it's not letting me use the keyboard arrow keys to move down the pages. I'm having to mouse over the down arrow of the scroll bar and use the left click every time I want to "turn" a page.

I'm not sure that's any clearer but it's all I've got. :D
You should send the ARC for the third Kingkiller book my way when you get it. ;)

If they know the book is going to sell, they don't need an ARC for it, typically. They're more useful for new authors or new series that they want to get launched.

Plus, I deal with YA ARCs mostly and that is squarely in the adult* fiction area.

*Not adult adult, even with the overhyped, steaming pile of BS sex scenes. SO lame.

I am Renee, Adam's fiance. First off- I have a couple confessions- I don't know anything about the ARC stuff or even about Ender's game (had to google "enders game enemy's gate" to get onto this site) but I figured it is about time I join the party! And this forum is important to Adam- so here I am :) And I am very happy that Adam is happy too!

I will most likely be posting here and there or at the very least lurking on the wedding thread as that is the stage in our lives. If there is an attorney job thread I would be all over that as well!

Anyways- nice to introduce myself and meet you all.

Sorry to post all this on this random thread...I just didn't really know where to post this particular message and this seemed like a good one because Adam introduced me by virtue of rickrolling the other day...

Hi, Renee!!! I'm so excited you're here! I'm also excited that you're marrying Adam, since he's awesome.

I'm Steph, massage therapist by trade, but being mommy takes up all of my time. My husband and I have 3 awesome kids and I get to stay home with them.

Feel free to start an attorney job thread. Or maybe Syphon will do it? It would be an interesting read for sure.

Please enjoy a limeade and I'll look forward to seeing you around. :)

Hi! I'm Kirsten, nice to meet you. Welcome to the pweb family! I was posting a lot in the wedding thread around this time a year ago, and now I'm mainly posting in the "Brontosaurus Lays an Egg" thread (e.g., the pregnancy thread).

Google moved the Reader link again! I greatly dislike having to click twice.

Man, I'm lazy. Maybe this should go the first world problem thread instead....

I know! I HATE it!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

I HATE it when people get on a busy elevator to ride up or down ONE floor. I get really irrationally angry.

Dude. What's the point of this? It probably takes longer than using the stairs.

Barring physical handicaps or heavy loads, I think anyone using an elevator, busy or not, for one floor is ridiculous.

The elevators here are SO CROWDED and I have to go up 23 floors to get to my office. Sometimes we stop at more than 5 floors before we get to the 23rd.

Irrational Irritation:

The Charmin toilet paper bears.

Also, the slogan, "Enjoy the Go."

Just... ewww. To both of them. Yicky and irritating.

I hate the one where the side of the guy's head is shaved by a flying roll of toilet paper. For one thing, razor sharp toilet paper is a little disturbing. Also, why the hell don't they keep spare rolls in the bathroom?

If you don't keep your spare rolls within arm's reach of the toilet you deserve to have poop-smeared towels when I am done.

Everything would be so much better without dried banana chips. Gross.

Guilty pleasure, or rather, dangerous-to-indulge pleasure: I really love the taste and texture of bran. I guess it's an irrational irritation that I can never eat enough of it as my tastebuds desire, because of Consequences.

Guilty pleasure (that can turn into irrational irritation or depressing irritation): Reading the comments on CNN articles. The more closely related the article is to body image issues, the greater the pleasure/irritation
