Thanksgiving

Talk about anything under the sun or stars - but keep it civil. This is where we really get to know each other. Everyone is welcome, and invited!

Thanksgiving

Postby Satya » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:04 pm

I know it's early for Thanksgiving Day. But it's never too early to give thanks.

As a whole, we are blessed beyond belief, each and every one of us. I know this without a shadow of a doubt. Give thanks for every moment, every breath, your health, family, loved ones, friends, pets, nature, the earth, the sun, our universe. Even inconvenience, temporary discomfort, life's little annoyances; these too are blessings to be grateful for.

So step up to the plate - not the one you'll be loading up with whatever you plan to feast upon - and spare a moment to reflect on every blessing that's brought you to that point, every one you'll get hereafter - and most importantly, the one you've got right now.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving was, like, a month ago.
One Duck to rule them all.

aboot
Pretty much all but the French-Canadians talk with that accent. It makes me laugh because every Canadian on this board denies it so vehemently but I hear it on a daily basis.

When I still worked at Shell I met my boss' boss, he works for Shell Canada in Alberta and had no accent whatsoever. I don't think I even heard an 'eh'.

I have to work 2-4 hours at the Circ desk on any given day and I also am in charge of wireless help (which belong to snowbirds the majority of the time, at least, they need the most help), so quite a few Canadians pass my way and converse with me 5 days out of the week and will continue to do so until we hit our first triple digit day, probably sometime in April.

I have registered at least 2 from Quebec, 1 from Saskatchewan, 2-3 from BC, and the rest I think have been from Alberta. I can't remember which group -and I'm not saying all have the"aboot" accent- but at least one group does have it (not the Quebec visitors). I haven't heard any say "eh," though.

Yeah, and they say "process" and "against" funny, too!

I love Canada and Canadian's but it's funny how some use that EH to death and they get so up tight if you pick on them about it. :)

A Canadian in my program and I eventually reached an agreement (this was back when I was clinging to my Texas accent) -- she would attempt to say "ya'll" instead of "you guys" if I would say "process" with a long "o." (Given that this was a counseling program, the word "process" comes up in pretty well every conversation. As in, "it's important to process this." "interpersonal process groups," "interpersonal process therapy," and "the therapy process." All of which are talking about entirely different things.)

It worked for about a week.

But I kind of miss hearing it now that I don't live near a lot of Canadians.
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

Happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone!
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
