Yeah, like many current Dr. Who fans I started with the new era in 2005. There are allusions and references to the old stuff as it takes place in the same continuity (as opposed to being a reboot/reimagining) but everything from 2005 to present is a new series. The 2005 season is in fact referred to as season 1 (or "series 1" if you want to use the British term) of the current series. Season 6 premiers this Saturday.

I don't think I've ever been glad that Easter Vigil will be so early, before. (8pm? Really, people?! That is NOT midnight mass!) But after the Vigil, we're heading back to celebrate Christ's resurrection with Doctor Who

I've only seen a little of it, but... I took the recommendation to just watch random ones with the "Tom Baker" doctor (the most well-known one of the old series). I liked them, and it didn't seem to matter that I didn't know anything up to that point.Where the hell do begin? I've read that its pretty easy to pick it up later in the series, BUT WHERE!?!? What should I do?
I don't think any of it was a bad introduction to the series, since I really like the old show, even if I haven't seen to much. (I have always found Daleks to just be plain stupid, though.)

Thanks for the advice people. I guess I will start with the 2005 series. If I like it, then i will check out the older stuff.
Lol, a couple weeks ago I happened to watch this short:

Looked quite fun. Altho I can think of worst scenarios than being stuck in a phone booth with two Karen Gillans. Sorry, I just have a thing for redheads...

That was me, not Yebra.Yeah, and as Yebra says, the device in The Lodger is the same as in this last episode in the tunnels.
"Only for today, I will devote 10 minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul." -- Pope John XXIII
Although to clarify I wasn't talking about the weird new TARDIS, but in that episode Amy spends most of her time stuck in the normal TARDIS where at some point she has an interesting reaction to something off screen. And then seems to forget. OOO ERRR.
Yebra: A cross between a zebra and something that fancied a zebra.
SPOILERS FOR SERIES 6 OPENER/SPECULATION
So, I'm thinking Canton Everett Delware is a clue, as his middle name, Everett, is the name of a physicist who did a lot of work with quantum theory and the many worlds hypothesis. But I'm not entirely sure how I think that works into how the doctor's going to get out of his predicament, unless EVERYTHING involving the Silence is going to have some series continuity revision/time reset/the Silence are ****ing everywhere.
So don't go worrying about me

OK, after having watched today's, I have just one comment:
What the FLIP is going on?
Spoiler warning for the second episode, as I'm not sure how the American schedule fits into the British one.
Okay, so at some point Amy has to go back in time to give birth, or she gives birth and the baby goes back in time. But why does the TARDIS not know whether or not she's pregnant?
Also, how on Earth does her child end up with the ability to regenerate?
Very good episode, though - loved the return of the swimming pool. If there was one room you wouldn't have thought necessary to have access to from the main control room it would be the swimming pool, but oh well.
EDIT: Also, the time machine thingy they destroyed was the same one that was encountered in The Lodger? I suppose having time travel explains how they get Amy / her child back to 1969...

Steven Moffatt is just messing with us, now.
But I was glad the Doctor recognised the time machine.

I... what. I am so confused. But, I really love the Amy/Rory dynamic in this episode. The entire time I was thinking "Aww, poor Rory!", and then, as it turns out, it wasn't that way!
Also, very confused over the kid. So very confused.
Did I mention that I'm confused? Oh, and Steven Moffat is an amazing writer.

One moment she's pregenant, the next moment she's not. The answer is obvious. Clearly Amy was knocked up by Erwin Schrodinger... who's a Time Lord.Okay, so at some point Amy has to go back in time to give birth, or she gives birth and the baby goes back in time. But why does the TARDIS not know whether or not she's pregnant?

Hmm so...
Who...
...is the Time Child?
...is River Song?
...did River kill?
...was in the space suit when it killed the Doctor?
What...
...is the astronaut suit?
...can the astronaut suit do without a pilot?
When...
...does Amy get pregnant/give birth?
...did the Silence enter the TARDIS?
Where...
...would the Silence take a Time Engine?
...is Jenny?
Why...
...did the TARDIS explode?
...are the Silence using a Time Engine?
...did the Space Suit grab the Time Child?
...is the Time Child super strong?
...did the space suit kill the future Doctor?
...did old Canton not explain anything?
How...
...did the Silence get the technology to build a Time Engine?
...does Amy's picture end up in the Time Child's room at the orphanage?

Went back and checked the Lodger, the Doctor calls it a "Time Engine, someone's attempt to build a TARDIS". I'll edit my post accordingly.
Does anyone else think that maybe the title of "Silence in the Library" wasn't chosen arbitrarily?
And the Silence are creepy and all and obviously not the nicest people in the galaxy, but does anyone find it a bit unsettling that the Doctor's solution was "Kill 'Em All!"

Don't think the solution was kill them all - just put them in a position where if they stayed around, they would die. Of course, a large number of them would die before they left, but I think he was in Outraged Last of the Time Lords mode.

I have an uneasy feeling of being very underwhelmed by this series so far.
The stretching of mysteries over multiple seasons over multiple episode arcs without resolution and without decent hints is making me weary. With the cracks we were seeing mentions of it even in the side-story episodes like Vampires in Venice, and huge bits of curiosity like the Doctor's "you have to trust me" dialog in Flesh and Stone. Now that the Time Engine has come back into play, we still don't know the Silence's agenda, or who the Time Child is, or who River is, and Eyepatch Lady who I forgot in the last post because she was so minor, and the hooded figure in last season's finale...
It doesn't make for good TV when you have to resolve so many plot threads they're forgotten before they get relevant again. And I'm betting it's only getting worse now that Gaiman's writing the next episode.

Clearly you weren't a fan of Lost.

Also, seriously, does the TARDIS not even have a first aid kit? Travel across time and space, halt invasions, he's got a full body scanner that can deal with Amy's quantum pregnancy, but he's got nothing to improve on CPR?

I'm excited for the Neil Gaiman episode, myself. Also, David Tennant in a ladies' hat.

It must have improved it somewhat since THAT'S NOT HOW CPR WORKS.Also, seriously, does the TARDIS not even have a first aid kit? Travel across time and space, halt invasions, he's got a full body scanner that can deal with Amy's quantum pregnancy, but he's got nothing to improve on CPR?

Seriously, I find it unconscionable that NO ONE in the entire crew or cast has ever taken CPR lessons. Just ONCE I'd like to see a show do it right. It's just as dramatic, and worth it on the odd chance someone tries to reproduce it by memory (this has happened with the Heimlich before).
