Only thing interesting is the toy ship on the shelf on the left. Everything else not impressed.

Yoda
kinda looks like the formic ships in the comics. It has a U-Shape with extended legs.

WAIT. Just noticed something.

Right above the orange ship thing on the left side. Above the top shelf there is a picture on the wall. Its a cartoon picture, looks like from the comic. Its a zoomed up face of someone.

Oh, and on the desk, below the orange ship, there's a small action-figure that looks like the Master Chief from Halo with a gun.

still looking for the mask from the buggers and astronauts game. :D

Hah! I love the 3D printer. It makes a statement. Much like the original book predicted the rise of the internet and tablet computers, putting that printer there says that they believe that something that is currently at the bleeding edge of technological innovation will someday be so commonplace and mundane that every kid will have one in their bedrooms.

I saw that!

I pictured it as the rough size of half a deck of playing cards, sort of a yellowish-white. I also expected a little redness around it, since it's "been in for so long." (And how would you trim hair from around it?)

You'd definitely need a cool looking extraction tool for this one, though....

I was thinking that too, or at least for it to look like it's gripping into his flesh a little more. Pulling this off doesn't look like it could "unplug him for all time" unless there's a nastily long needle or something that we can't see.

Also, I was expecting a wider diameter and not as tall.

It's... shiny. And looks like someone just glued it there. I hope they'll do something to make it look more "realistic" in the actual movie.

Well, I'm pretty sure the guy in the back between Khylin and Aramis is Moises's brother, and I presume the three around Moises are his relatives as well. The girl in front of Suraj looks like it might be his sister? Then this picture got posted on Aramis's facebook, and someone said the girl next to Asa is his girlfriend.
Not really sure about the guy by Asa, though.

Holy crap. Got my question answered by Orci!!!!!
Reuben asks:

Question to Mr. Orci — How has this production differed from past (and other current) projects? I’m especially interested to know how you feel about the cast’s interactions and your feelings about the script, now that you see it ‘in action’.

Let’s see. Well first, though I have had some experience with bringing beloved stories to the screen that had intelligent and rabid fan bases like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3, TRANSFORMERS, and STAR TREK, this is the first movie with a pre-existing fan base I have worked on that I didn’t write. This means I that got the chance to evaluate the material merely as a fan. Gavin’s script made me jealous, but it was also a relief that he had satisfied what I would want as a fan from a difficult adaptation. Also, I have never worked with so many talented young actors who became friends so fast under such amazing circumstances. Seeing Asa, who plays Ender, and Hailee, who plays Petra, floating high above the set and getting the giggles was amazing and frightening all at once. They laughed for like twenty minutes, which as a producer on a clock eager to finish your shooting day can give you a heart attack. But soon we all had the giggles, and the joy of it overcame the panic.

Update from Summit PR:
These are NOT from the film. The Ben Proctor image was a personal sketch that was done years ago, before he was ever affiliated with the ENDER'S GAME production. It was his own fan art and not something that is or ever was a piece of concept art for the film. You'll note that Ben is taking this down from his personal site, but it's only to ward off further confusion. The David Levy image is also not a piece of concept art from the film. This is actually from a video game project he worked on years ago.

There are catwalks on three sides of it.

If it's a gate (and that's my guess), then it's DOWN.

Interesting, the Greek letter for "F" also has an "I" in it.....

If you haven't been following the Twitter feeds, looks like most of the cast have wrapped. Jimmy Pinchak showed up for one more day of shooting at the end. The wrap party was last weekend, but it looks like thet had a few more days of shooting to start out this week.

Think about that - most, if not all, of the live-action footage to be shot for the Ender's Game film is in the can.

Did you ever think that day would come?

Scary!

It also means that WHATEVER the Battle School is, it already is. Which (in my self-important, bloviated opinion) sucks.

I think we can all go home, now.

With Digital Domain going into BANKRUPTCY, and with them having a 37.5% stake (3/8, for those who were wondering) in the film, we're going to see a HUGE hiccup in the post-production. I predict the movie will be delayed beyond the November 2013 opening.

Not only will the production be losing an important stake-holder, but they'll be losing their artistic producer and director, and THE main effects contributor, all at the same time. So...a minimum 3 month delay, followed by a re-positioning of the release to take advantage of the Summer 2014 market?

That is: if the film isn't canned. Card's politics being what they are, he may be perceived as a liability to the public relations of the film.

BTW, according to Bloomberg, the offices in Port St. Lucie, FLA are the headquarters. Some "restructuring"...they closed the headquarters and fired everyone.

"Digital Domain said it eliminated almost all staff in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where it’s based, and that studios in California and Vancouver will continue to operate."

I know nothing about how these things usually play out, but all of the sites that report DD's bankruptcy still state EG's expected release as Nov 2013. That may just be for lack of any official statement to the contrary, but maybe this isn't a deal breaker.

They need to say that regardless, or their value will become even more depressed.

Can you imagine the crazed runnings around in the front offices there right now? They're worried about PAYROLL. They just closed down a facility with over 300 people in it, that provided low-cost US-based labor for them. I would guess that they don't currently know what the schedule impact is, yet.

In my humble opinion.

I suppose a delay might be inevitable, but production started in February. I don't know much about the film making process, but surely they must be far enough along that scraping the film outright is unlikely, right? Other companies have invested too much time and money to get nothing in return. Maybe summer 2014?

ETA:
There's also This, which seems to imply that Oddlot Entertainment at least is trying to ensure that whoever picks up the pieces of DD will keep to schedule.

There is going to be a great deal of time spent in "post" (post-production). If so much of the recorded footage was done in front of green screens in "big rooms," then that's pretty much guaranteed. The ships are CG (or physical, but these days exteriors are almost entirely CG). the interior CURVED hallways are also going to have CG extensions--if they aren't entirely CG. Battle Room scenes are CG, plus many, many planes of compositing (layering images over images over images--think CG background, and a mix of live performers, all-CG performers, and live faces pasted on CG performers).

There's a LOT of work yet to be done.

And if DD has to give up the stuff it has ALREADY done, then there may be extensive data translation issues, which will also take time.

Other films have actually been "in the can" (fully produced and ready for distribution), and have been sidelined PERMANENTLY for political and business decisions. Never say never.

Odd lot vs. Digital Domain and the whole rest of the film seems like the tail wagging the dog. Odd Lot has NOT produced $100MM films before.

EndersAnsible just posted the winner of the DDMG auction. "Galloping Horses" (formerly "Wyld Stallions"), out of China and India.

At the bottom of the clip, she still says "Release Date November 1st, 2013." 'm thinking it would be more correct to say that "Digital Domain and its new owners have not revised the previously stated release date of November, 2013." At this point, considering the dust hasn't even settled (and with Florida still smarting from its losses, the dust and the lawsuits wont be settled for quite a while), Summer 2014 would be optimistic.

Oh, and I've seen the re-write of the script from Galloping Horses. In the shower scene between Bonzo and Ender, Bonzo says, "And now...we fight!" Then he jumps up in the air and flies 25 feet straight at Ender, with one leg extended...while spinning. Meanwhile, the Launchie Armies all put on their multi-colored battle suits and start singing and dancing in the hallways.

I wish this was an Aprils Fools joke, but I don't really think it is.

Remember in Frank Herbert's 27th book of the Dune trilogy? I think it was called "Dune: Pinky and the Brain take over Arrakis"

In that book, one of the characters (a "true fremen") made a comment that though all the fremen still wore stillsuits, those stillsuits were for "entertainment purposes only." They were for decoration.

I feel like one of those fremen. Recognizing that there is a certain, probably unhealthy, obsessiveness about it.

The conversations on this board (since it represents both P-Web and Ender's Ansible) are not really much about the book, or the film. They're about My Pretty Pony, and all the friendships that have blossomed between so many of us here--and that's great (well, not the My pretty Pony stuff. That's creepy).

But the whole "Ender's Game" aspect seems to have faded away. Maybe because we see the film effort collapsing under its own weight, and there's not a damned thing we can do about it. Maybe that's appropriate. Maybe that's the healthier attitude to take on. It happens to be MY major interest, but maybe that's just me.

It makes me wonder, though. If I were producing the movie--if I ran Galloping Horse, or Reliance--would I see "Ender's Game" as a plus on my tally sheet, or as a negative? Where's the rabid fan base that was promised? How are we going to make a film to rival the viewings and repeat viewings that those other guys got with "The Hunger Games," and "Twilight"? Where's the marketing opportunities? And, I hate to say it (because I still love his writing--I'm halfway through "Shadows in Flight," and I'm totally engrossed in it. It makes me want to sit out in my car and just listen to the Audio Book on CD), but OSC's harsh political views could conceivably bring a lot of negative publicity to the release. REAL negative publicity. NOT the type of negative publicity that falls under the heading of "all publicity is good publicity."

I'd be thinking, "How much have we (Galloping/Reliance) actually SPENT on this movie? What percentage of DD would you say it was? How much more will we have to spend to complete it, and promote it, and convert it to IMAX, and release it to theaters? What sort of tchotchkes can we make and sell, based on the story we've got? How will we make this into a film franchise so we can leverage the efforts put into it so far? How do we MASSIVELY expand the fan base?"

For one thing, if they're going to massively expand the fan base, I don't see it happening yet. That's got to happen soon, but it's got to be a part of a large, multi-pronged attack. Galloping/Reliance needs to think about how to absorb DD's assets, including its people, technical equipment, skill-sets, AND the E/G film "properties" (the hundreds or thousands of hard drives, etc., the remaining props, costumes, and physical sets if needed for re-shoots), and that's going to take a little while. It's one of the main reasons in my mind why we're NOT going to see a November 2013 release. But once they catch their breath, they need to start planning.

I'm hoping that they plan to continue with the movie, even if the Battle School is a big ol' ball of kuso. I'm thinking that if they DO continue, they're going to need us. They're going to need SOMEONE who can put boots on the ground, in order to get asses in the seats and eyes on the screens later. But the momentum is lagging. The iron is no longer hot. I hope they're listening.

The book means a hell of a lot to me. The movie, well, it's been such a roller coaster ride with that being made, not being made, kind of possibly being made, and I feel like they've already snubbed some of the biggest fans by not doing their homework that it's hard to remain excited about it.

But even so, if they came around here tomorrow and said "We need you guys," I'd be out there promoting the hell out of this movie (more than I already have...every person at work who has asked about the book has gotten more of an earful from me than they expected).
