I couldn't find a generic sports thread, so I thought I'd start one. Any sport goes. What is the sport and who are you rooting for? Have a comment to make, make it. Consider it your friendly Pweb sports bar.

I'm currently watching the D-Backs - Rockies game. Bottom of the 10th, 2-2, Arizona is down one in the series, one out to go. Great game, but frustrating as all hell with the 10 or 11 people the D-Backs have stranded.

Only things I'm paying attention to are Eagles football (;_;), and UNC Basketball (^_^).

*Looks out for Cowboys and Duke fans*

Well I watched the phillies lose.

I have season tickets to the eagles, but the season may be a lost cause if tomorrow doesn't go well.

I am most excited about the flyers though. They look pretty damn good through three games. Home opener is tonight, so I'm pumped for that.

The D-Backs are 0-2 in the series and they're playing in Colorado for the next three games.

They gave away the last game by walking in a run and just blew the first game, so I'm semi-optimistic that maybe, though not likely, they'll have their s*** together. Bad thing is, they no longer have home field advantage, which I suppose they never really had anyway; fans here are pretty weak. Maybe after the team is more than 9 years old, they'll have a good fan base.

Also, to be fair, the Rockies are just an amazingly good team. They just tied a record from the 70's of having a 5-0 post-season record. Did I mention they're just an amazingly good team? If my team loses to them, I won't be angry or ashamed. Frustrated, but not angry or ashamed. It's a young team, so I expect even more greatness next year from them.

Since I have a feeling my baseball season will end before the week does, it'll be more NFL (Chargers and the Packers) until December, when NCAA basketball (Go AZ Wildcats!!) kicks in for good until March. However, I may have to go back to football momentarily, as the Superbowl is coming to 'Phoenix' (really, Glendale/Litchfield Park) in '08. Since I have family that lives 3 miles from the stadium, I might have to have a little gathering.

I think it's safe to say I'm covered for a while where sports are concerned. :)

Well it was a successful sports weekend for me. With baseball dead to me, I turn to football and hockey. Although I really can't believe the Rockies are up 3-0 on the D-Backs. I don't understand how they can keep this pace up, something has got to give.

But the Eagles won keeping there season alive. They won a sloppy game against a floundering Jets team. But Westbrook and William Thomas are back so that is a good thing. However the offensive line must play better or the Bears will eat McNabb alive.

The Flyers won their home opener and are leading their division. I know they are only 4 games into the season, but it is such a dramatic turn around from last year. They didn't get their 3rd win until October 30th.

And did anyone see the Patriots destroy the Cowboys? It didn't even seem like they played their best game and they just ran over the seemingly best team in the NFC. I can't wait for them to play the colts.

And thus endeth my baseball season for the year. The D-Backs (probably the youngest team in average player age) were no match for the Rockies (the best defensive team there is). I'm proud of my guys. :)

Sorry we had to beat you, Alea. We're actually in quite a state of shock. The Rockies have not been a good team in the past. This is WEIRD!

Surprise, surprise, the Sox are KILLING me.

[edit]

THAT'S right, boys, make me eat my words!!!

(in case you can't tell, I'm a gal who, like her daddy before her, yells at the damn tv while the game is on. I've been watching at home alone for the last two games and you can best believe I'm yelling at the tv. but I figured I'd yell in our virtual sports bar, too).

See, I blame that on the umpires, not Manny.

I think it was pretty clearly a homerun.

c'mon, Beckett. Don't lose your stuff now!!!!

I am so stressed out.

Is there something I'm ignorant of about this series? My dad is upstairs watching it and even my mom knows about it, and she's in the hospital. Both of them are traditionally Blue Jays fans, and neither have watched baseball for about a decade, that I know of.

If they're both Jays fans they're probably following it just to root against the damn Red Sox, just like me!

...I don't know?

Sox fans are infamously passionate. I'm hardly an exception.

We're hoping to repeat the miraculous events of 2004 and make it to the World series and win it again, now that we're finally free of the curse.

Yeah, my dad's rooting for the Indians. I'd be happy if the Sox win, mostly because I have a marginal connection with them (a former res-mate who is a Sox fan, and who is convinced that they won in 2004 because he wore his Red Sox belt buckle the day he met the pope).

Why would Jays fans resent Boston?

*shouts from a safe distance*

I hate the Yankees even more though (I'm so glad they're gone already), and you know what they say about the enemy of your enemy.
Why would Jays fans resent Boston?
Why wouldn't we? It gets frustrating finishing in third because we're in the same division as both the Sox and the Yankees. It sucks to be pitted directly against the two teams with the biggest payrolls in baseball.

Oh Sox fans are sooooooooooo superstitious. (We won the game I didn't watch and lost the three I watched. Tonight I'm just listening on the radio and you had better believe if we win tonight I'll be doing the radio thing for the rest of the ALCS).

At least you hate the Yankees, too. And your dislike of the Sox comes from an acceptable place. You need not fear violence from me any longer.

Acceptable place?

(Don't mind me, I'm posting from a place of extreme boredom and a bit too much wine...)
