I just finished my first day at OHSU as a research assistant and it was great and I can't wait to go back tomorrow!
Yay! I'm glad it is going well!

Two kinds of veggie chili have been made and portioned out so zero and I can just warm up dinner together or individually for at least the next week (but most likely longer).

I'll be making some lasagna tomorrow, hopefully, to add to the stash of pre-made food because damn, when I come home from work, I do not want to be cooking food.

I got a 94% on my essay (analyzing this page)! Apparently I'm not entirely terrible at writing.

I'm still wearing my wedding rings, and can slide them off and on with ease.

I know that it just means I'm lucky to not experience any swelling (my feet--knock on wood--also remain their usual size) and has nothing to do with my weight gain, etc. But it DOES make me feel better about said weight gain and other changes in my body that are all part and parcel of pregnancy.

So even though it's nothing I can really take credit for, I'm thrilled that I can look down at my hand and know those rings are still on there (for the time being, anyway).

Now that I've cut back substantially on my political and theological discussion, I made this animated GIF to remind me why:

The piece is: Flogging a Dead Horse, by Paul Spooner. It is currently flogging at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, MD.

So, the "shelf bra" in tank tops and camis is nothing but a big, giant nuisance to me. I inadvertantly bought a couple of camis with the built in shelf last week. Big mistake. If I put the shelf under my boobs, it pulls it so far down that it shows virtually all my cleavage, entirely defeating the purpose of wearing the damn thing. If I wear it with the shelf raised so the cleavage is tamed, then I have a weird looking line across my boobs under the shirt.

Today at work, it occurred to me. "Why not just cut it out?"

So I did.

And it worked beautifully. I now have a nice triangle of material under my v-neck sweater that conceals cleavage to an acceptable degree without any weird lines.

I do not know WHY that never occurred to me before!

I HAVE FINISHED ALL THE (PRINT) READINGS A WEEK EARLY

In theory. Waiting to hear back from the professors or TAs but it's likely the reading I'm concerned about is an online reading and I'm less stressed about finishing those in the next week than I was about being able to finish the paper readings. I can read fun books again. For a week, at least. :frolic:

I didn't pick up a call that was coming in on the fax line!

(Our office coordinator is out this week. I've had a lot of phone duty. I keep picking up calls and having fax machines beep angrily at me because I never notice it's on the fax line until it's too late.)

Oh, man, I have a LOT of these today!

I went to the grocery store with Penny! And no one else to help me! I popped her in the Moby wrap and went at it. She only cried a very little bit in the checkout line (and wailed the whole way home in the car, but hey).

I PREPPED DINNER when she went down for a nap. It's simple -- lettuce wraps with chicken. But I brined the chicken, julienned the carrots, and cleaned and trimmed the snow peas. That's more cooking than I've done in MONTHS.

Yesterday David took off of work because it was his birthday, and we took Penny out for breakfast AND dinner, and I attended a Mommy and Me class for the third week in a row.

I've discovered that getting out of the house with her really is essential to my sanity, and I'm so glad it's starting to thaw out around here so that getting out and about is more feasible. I am beginning to be more confident taking her out alone, and am less terrified of taking her in public (what if she poops and the bathroom doesn't have a changing table? WHAT IF SHE CRIES AND EVERYONE HATES ME?!).

Admittedly, I still haven't showered yet today, but my clothes are clean. And hey, you can't have everything.

I have sort of built a website that I did most of the work on! I've of course asked zero for help but I had the foundation on everything in place and worked through the issues with him most of the time; sometimes I just couldn't and that is also okay. :frolic:

Yay! BUILDING WEBSITES IS FUN.

On triumphs, I played a tabletop RPG with a bunch of people I've never met before in my life, and had fun, and I think they liked me.

I walked/ran (mostly walked) a 10k (6.2 miles) today as part of the Fargo Marathon. I have never walked more than four miles before. The crowd cheering on the way in and crossing the finish line was the most amazing thing ever.

Completed my Undergrad Edumucation. Was not even slightly nervous about walking in front of such a big group of people.

Chosen a law school, SMU's Dedman School of Law....though I'll ride some waitlists. Law cycle: Accepted into Washington and Lee, William and Mary, and SMU. Rejected by Penn. Priority waitlisted at Emory, Preferred waitlisted at Georgetown, Plain old Waitlisted at George Washington, UT, Duke, and Columbia.

Started from the bottom...now we're here.

Haha thanks Steph. "You know nuthing John Snuhh"- Game of Thrones
If I didn't realize that before, I realize now.

---------------------------------------------------------------

About a month ago, I emailed my top choice that another school decently ranked was trying to steal me away from them with a no stipulation, full tuition scholarship. I asked that my half-tuition scholly be raised just a little bit, from 24k to 30k, and that it would be enough to secure me choosing them over the poaching school's 44K a year.(In reality, I was barely considering the other school)
This is very typical of law applicants, negotiating scholarships. However, this school is known for not negotiating scholarships. I emailed the Dean that the deposit deadline for this other school was in like 8 days, implying they should respond by then if they want to prevent me from putting down a deposit, thereby eliminating the other school. The Dean blew me off, responding the day after the deposit deadline, saying that they don't raise scholarships and "yeah sorry for my tardiness. We don't raise scholarships. I'm sure you'll find we're worth it and make the right choice"(paraphrase).

Consequently, I shook my head, face palmed, but was still going to choose their school. The final deposit deadline came along and I was putting off paying it simply because I was procrastinating.... but, apparently that worried the Dean, so she called me up and offered me one of their named scholarships that had recently been left open by someone withdrawing...if I'd just put down my seat deposit before the end of the day. Which I was already going to do.
From half tuition scholarship to full tuition and fees. They only offer 8-11 named scholarships.

Never thought I'd win the scholarship negotiation game.
(Top 1/3 of class stipulation for keeping it, so in reality, I haven't won. If I lose it, I pay full price for the next two years. This is a personal triumph that could turn into my downfall)
