The house appraised about 7% higher than our purchase price. Yay for "free" equity!

I managed to remember which lane I needed to be in to make my turn! I always get this particular turn wrong and it drives me nuts!

I'd make a jab about remembering which side of the road to drive on, but Lord knows I sure had trouble keeping that straight when I went back to Canada.

:stoned:

Actually, it was a right turn, thankyouverymuch. I just can never remember if the right lane becomes a turning lane at the previous intersection, and I always guess that it does, but it doesn't, leaving me with inevitably no time to make the lane change to make my turn.

We'll not talk about the time I took a left turn from a one-way street into the wrong side of the street, though.

Some of my recent searching for a purpose brought me to the southwest graveyards and scrap dealers looking for the one airframe I need. It's totally creepy to walk amongst the long dead or still dying aircraft, some of them cry out at me like ghosts in the most creepifying ways .Most if not all old planes have a rich history and I look through them all trying to visualize their past adventures and to acess their possible resurrection if at all possible. Someday I feel I will find the one I can spend the rest of my life with as I walk through the wrecks waiting to turn the next corner and see my firefly of a plane sitting on the edge of the junkyard waiting just for me.

I had a coffee date with a girl I had never met in real life before.

And I came away not hating her and actually kind of liking her.

This is a new high score, in terms of dates.

I have cooked dinner 5 times in the last week. With death and sickness and hospital stays, people have been bringing us food. It's been weird to get back into the mode of normal life. (How do you get back to normal life after such a month?)

Every night at work I doodle on the envelope that I use for the deposit. Apparently, the lady at the bank has been asking to keep my deposit envelopes because she loves the doodles.

I think they're horrible, but it made me happy!

I spent a day on a commercial video shoot for the project I'm working on. I didn't NEED to be there (not for work, at least; I could make an argument that I needed to be there for ME!), but I wanted to be there. I got to meet a number of the people in the production, and to help out in ways that only I could. I represented myself and my company very, very well. I'm hoping to get more contacts from this, and from there...who knows?

I've heard it said that a person should pay attention to what it is they would do, for free. This was one of those moments.

Ugg school tomorrow and I have to tell everyone and they will be like "Oh good for you" except they either will miss me or really don't care. But still I GOT IN!!!

oh wait this is the triumphs thread... uhh.... I started my final project early instead of procrastinating like I always seem to end up doing

btw, very mixed feelings when I posted this so....

ha

It wasn't anything special. I was tired of my dresser being hidden in the closet but I refused to let it out in its former condition, so I decided (a while ago) I was going to paint it.

Finally, yesterday, I worked up the guts to buy the paint and when I got home, I figured if I didn't start then, I'd probably sit on it for weeks/months, so I took it out of the closet, dragged it across the room and rearranged the bed to make it work.

Then I got to sanding and painting; other than some touch-ups, I finished it. It looks much better now, I think.

Welcome! I've been working straight midnights since Christmas and have more or less survived so far.

You can see my lovely attempts at painting it a few years ago to give it some life...blue, pink, green, a bit of purple up top I never finished. It's a gray now, though I can't remember the specific name of it.

I scored an 11 on this year's Putnam Competition. Yes, that's out of 120. Yes, I'm excited.

High scores are good. But the median score is typically something like 1-3, if I remember correctly.

Median is 0-1, I think. Scoring in the mid 20s usually gets your name on a list mailed around to pretty much every math doctoral program in the country. Scoring above 60 means you're probably the sort of person who could land a Fields medal.

I'm particularly happy since I didn't actually declare a math major until last semester and am missing about 50% of the core "grad school track" curriculum in math (won't have taken real analysis, and only halfway through abstract algebra).

:D Way more people understood this one than I was expecting. There aren't too many exams where scoring 9% of the possible points is cause for celebration.
