A conversation with moot...

So...

I had a chat today over Skype voice chat with moot, founder of 4chan. o_o

I emailed him earlier today to see if he'd share some insights on things, since I run an imageboard that's fairly successful, and maybe share some pitfalls or mistakes he felt he made.

He replied within the hour, saying mine stood out among the many he gets every day and that he'd make some time to chat with me, and that he'd prefer to do it over voice chat as he dislikes typing long stuff. He was a very chill and helpful guy. I always kinda knew that anyways, from listening to some of his thoughts on internet-related matters, privacy stuff, trends, culture, etc. But the image of 4chan and the actual guy behind it, are two totally different things, and he went out of his way to talk at length with me and be open about what he felt his mistakes have been and what should be done to avoid them.

Just thought I'd share that. It was a very interesting experience, moot talking to me about the history of 4chan and internet culture, the differing communities that places like reddit, 9gag, 4chan and other imageboards attract and a lot more. It lasted over an hour and I felt that was pretty cool of him to do for me.

Not really a fan of much of the imageboard aspect of Internet culture (or what it's turned Facebook/the-rest-of-the-internet into), but it's always cool to talk to famous people and find out they're quite personable!
