Postby Gravity Defier » Wed May 11, 2011 6:57 pm

I was thinking about this post by Kirsten:
"I celebrate myself and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you."

~Walt Whitman

God, I admire his exuberance. And his fearlessness in celebrating himself and singing himself.
and was thinking how damn easy it is to say/think/feel negative things about ourselves so I thought I'd be a pest and ask you all to humor me by telling me why you're awesome. I mean, I have a very good idea why you are, but I want you to tell me anyway. Please.

Brag, boast, simply state the truth. Tell me once, tell me slowly over time, just tell me why you're awesome. No reason is too small or silly.

Okay, go!

You first.

We have a very good idea why you are, but we want you to tell us anyway.

I'll bite.

I'm the awesomest because:

-I put my baby to sleep by putting her down awake (or maybe that's why she's the awesomest)

-I found a Batgirl shirt at the thrift store for $5 and a sweet little wooden rocking chair for $10

-I made a very tasty and nutritious supper in about 10min last night

I think you should've given some examples of yourself, Alea :)

I am awesome because I have always been very tall for my age. In elementary school, I was usually tallest in my class. I am 5'10" and taller than most women I know, and an awful lot of men. (On my mother's side of our family, my mom was the tallest woman until I came along -- at the height of 5'4". I only have two male relatives on that side who are taller than me.)

And I have never, never, never once wished I were shorter, tried to hide my height, etc. I wear high heels and just embrace it. Always have, always will.

I can't believe I wasn't here for all the excitement! We had a wedding today, so I was not at home. I've been suspecting for a couple of weeks, at least. I'm happy my suspicions were true! PWEB babies ftw!!!!

Hahah, I had actually expected we'd post it during *our* daytime, but then Ali started posting after we got off of skype with my family. So it ended up being our nighttime and most everyone else's daytime.

What gave us away? I'm just curious, because you're the first person except my mom who suspected.

It was a few different posts (that I'm trying to remember, since I have mommy brain. Don't worry, you'll get your very own mommy brain soon!!). You wrote a Dear You to Jan and Paul about being grad student parents. I remember a post (I think) about really wanting a burger, or something meaty, even though you don't eat meat? I know there were a couple of other posts that my brain can't remember clearly, that together with those, made me suspicious. Just one of them wouldn't have, but all of them together got me to thinking. Also, you mentioned you found a bottle of wine, but you didn't mention that you drank it, or if it was good. I sure wasn't going to ask you if you were pregant, though, even if I thought it!! ;)

I'm so excited for you guys. I love that my kids have such awesome "pweb cousins" already and I'm glad that they get another one! Seriously, someday we'll have to get all these kids together for an awesome fun weekend.

Well, the wine is still waiting because we're not TOTAL lushes haha, and hamburgers are my kryptonite especially since England fails at veggie burgers, but yes, thinking of Jan and Paul did help with the early panic. :)

Pweb cousins!!

Well, I was reading all your posts with my "I think Ali might be pregnant" glasses. With those on, it's no wonder that I read into things that had no pregnancy meaning. :)

I think that I derive my entire sense of awesomeness from my job. Just recently I felt pretty awesome because my urinalysis lab went off without a hitch, and I even had most of the kids convinced that they were testing real urine! :D

But in the more general sense, I’m awesome because…

- I have directly contributed to the education of over 500 young minds and counting.
- I deal with crap that anyone who has never been a teacher can’t even understand, and I do it with a smile. (Student: “How come you never get mad and yell at us like our other teachers?”)
- Students beg me to teach whatever science course they are taking the following year/semester.
- After spending 20 minutes in my class my principal had such amazing things to say about me that I couldn’t believe my ears.
