Starting tomorrow David and I are embarking on a plants-only diet for 15 straight days. No dairy. No meat. No alcohol. Almost no grains (definitely no flour. Bread! *sobs*). No sugar. No caffeine.

We're doing this for a lot of different reasons, and we're doctor supervised with the whole thing. We're not fasting or anything. We're still eating plenty. It's just that we're eating only plants.

And people, coffee does not count as a plant.

Coffee's totally a plant. I've picked it off of trees with my own hands.

Not to sound like a further saboteur, but what will you eat? Any recipe ideas?

Yeah, we basically have a generic printout of this 15 day "program" that we can follow if we want. We probably will follow that initially and then break off after a day or two. For the first day on the sheet breakfast is listed as baked apples and raisins, though, so at least that sounds yummy.

There's lots of salads (sans dressing) and roasted vegetable dishes and things like that. And recipes for green smoothies and stuff. And looots of soups. I think I'll probably make a ton of our own soups, slightly modified to fit the parameters. We have a huge bag of odds and ends in the freezer that are just waiting to be made into veggie stock anyway, and if I do big batches of soups we can bring them for lunches as well as eating them for dinner.

What about using butter while cooking? Is that ok, or is that taboo?

this would be a deal breaker. I'm sorry doc, but I'm gonna just have to go ahead and die.

Give me butter or give me death!

Death's new slogan:

Death: I Can't Believe It's Not Butter

For the next 15 days, no butter. No olive oil. Nothing remotely delicious. Tooooooooooorture.

(I'm also going to be beginning my wedding pie prep during this time, so the torture will be very real and immediate).

ETA: Alea. Don't make me laugh at work. They'll know I'm on pweb instead of diligently reviewing charts.

We were supposed to spend this week prepping our bodies for the major switch by cutting back on booze, caffeine, scaling back the dairy, etc. Yeah. Like that was gonna happen. David asked me what I wanted for dinner tonight, since we're going out after we tour (and hopefully book!) the apple orchard, and I was like, "Um, everything? Obviously."

I was going to suggest spaghetti squash.

David and I were gently cautioned that most people find the first three days somewhat difficult and "tend to get a little cranky."

No s***, sherlock.

David is a BEAST if he doesn't have his coffee in the morning. I, on the other hand, will shank someone for some carbs.

I have no idea how we'd do this. Between his allergies and my stomach (plus a couple allergies of my own), we'd just die.

But... but... olive oil is from olives, and they're from trees?

Um. Good luck? I cannot wrap my brain around this, not in the slightest, but I wish you well.

*Wanders off for more cream-cheese English muffins*

replace no meat with no legumes/nightshades and you're doing a paleo cleanse (but at least you can eat meat on a paleo one).

with no grains and no sugar, your body will probably drop 5-10 lbs of excess water over two weeks.

Driving in L.A. (or anywhere in SoCal for that matter).

I'm afraid to drive anywhere in California. Once we cross that border there's no way i'll get behind the wheel! Will thinks people drive worse up here, but I have no clue how he can think that.

Yeah...from what little I saw, it seemed better/easier up north. I will drive Vegas and Phoenix but the thought of driving anywhere in SoCal scares the s*** out of me.

SoCal vs Nor Cal drivers are completely different NorCal drivers I like. SoCal drivers are crazy. NY drivers are bad. But I have to say TN drivers (especially in the snow) are the VERY WORST I've experienced.

Hey! People think all of New York is NYC. Not fair. Many of us Upstaters are great drivers. :P

NJ drivers are the absolute worst. There is no argument. Because I refuse to believe that there could be a worse group of drivers.

I found a grey hair in my eyebrows. It's happening...I'm getting old. I'm afraid of being old.

Things that terrify me most (and this one's probably already up here) are GAS MASKS!

I am kind of excited about grey hair? I want some. (I am probably romanticizing this the way I romanticize glasses). So far I haven't been able to find any, and David has confirmed that for me. He's got tons already.

I do, however, have plenty of wrinkles coming in -- despite a lifetime of zealous sunblock application. There were those two years where I smoked cigarettes, though, so, that's on me.

I am actually looking forward to turning 30 in July. All good things on the horizon.

I have so much grey hair. I've been greying since I was about 18. I try to think of it as "tinsel". Rei likes it and insists I'm only allowed to dye my hair if I want to enjoy a new colour, but not to cover up the grey.

I'd forgotten this thread existed, but I'm afraid of not being able to finish my phd. :(

I don't have much grey hair but I have already decided that I'm never going to dye it (I've never been a dyer). I have more grey hairs than wrinkles, however, thanks to a round face and a lifetime of oily skin. I knew there would be an upset to the acne at some point!

I don't mind grey hair on my head; I've had that since I was 11. It's grey hair anywhere else that bothers me.

Due to technical difficulties elsewhere most of my grey is in my beard, especially around my chin.

I seem to be on an asymptotic path toward an adult body. My parents went prematurely grey but I don't think I'll age and have to die of something else.
