I think I need to fix my sleeping schedule. 4:30 AM should not be too early to go to bed.

My life/sleep schedule has completely flipped in the last year or so. I used to be a night-owl - now, I'm something I never thought possible... A morning person. I'm in bed by 10pm and I get up at about 5am. Even on my days off and weekends, I can't see myself not getting up by at least 6. I just the feeling of being up with (or before) the sun, knocking out a workout before 9 and after work, feeling like I've accomplished everything I have to, and 5 to 10 is all mine.

"Stu, what are you doing?"
"Making chocolate pudding."
"It's 4 o'clock in the morning. Why on earth are you making chocolate pudding?"

Man, the number of times I started making apple crisp around midnight... and then ate it all that same night.

Tonight is, sadly, not one such night. Although I AM still up late enough to have made apple crisp and eaten it.

One time, a pwebber and I made cinnamon cookies at 5am, LOL, after talking all night. Unfortunately, due to a lack of accessible cinnamon, we used broken up cinnamon sticks. Luckily, I've learned a lot about cooking in the interim.

...which does not explain why my chosen afternoon snack is peanut butter out of the jar. Old habits are hard to break

Try, Try, Try, but no sleep for Nicole.

Damn 6am meetings...

On a (positive?) note, I can't believe it's already going to be Thursday. Uber quick week..

Why do I know what this is. Why. I don't remember this episode at all; I have almost no recollection of this show. But for some reason, I remember him making chocolate pudding. what.jpg

It was because he had lost control of his life.

Erg... this is really not cool. I went to bed at midnight and woke up shortly after four. Really woke up. And I need to be up at half-past eight to start a new work week after a long week and a one day weekend.

Well, it's nearly 6 AM, so I'm not sure if this counts as insomniac. But it's a Sunday morning, and I'm usually in bed quite a bit later. I fell asleep around 7 or 8:00 last night and woke up around 4:00 this morning. D was snoring fit to beat the band, so I gave up and got up. I guess it's still not really insomnia since I got a good night of sleep, but whatever, it counts. Anything before 5:00 AM counts, in my book.

Working on paperwork that is necessary for me to graduate this semester. So, that's good. It reminds me a bit of filling out tax forms. Anyhow, my plan after that is to work on perfecting the tables and figures in my dissertation draft and, if time allows, start making the changes to the lit review and discussion that are Priority 1 and Priority 2. All other changes are postponed until after it is sent out since I am DETERMINED to send it out to everyone today and to start the process of getting a defense date.

Also, there's nothing like an NCIS serial killer episode first thing in the morning with your yogurt and peanut butter sandwich. (I was tired of cereal and not ambitious enough for oatmeal or eggs.)

Sleep? What's that? I didn't even go to bed last night! I nerd-ed out and played through the entire Halo: Reach campaign last night. I'm still so hyped up on caffeine that I can't sleep even if I wanted to!

I kept waking up and rolling onto my back semi-sleeping last night. This sucks because I don't generally sleep on my back, I only get a light doze.

In what can only be described as cosmic retribution for keeping someone else awake, despite being plenty tired myself, I couldn't sleep for s*** this morning because my mother's boyfriend came home from a very late shift and true to his Jersey nature, was talking to someone very loudly and in colorful terms.

As much as I'd like to wake up to a good "f***," I'd rather it not be from him.

(See what I did there? hah)

I had such a horrible time sleeping last night. I couldn't fall asleep and tried all sorts of sheep-counting-type tricks, but to no avail. Sucks for a long day ahead. Tomorrow I'ma nap even though it'll be harder to sleep at night, because hahahaha I have an AFTERNOON shift!

I think I'm only up because one of my friends won't go to bed before me out of pride.

Also because I knocked myself on cough medicine last night and slept for ages.

Just wondering... if you're trying to change it, have you tried fasting? Fasting for some number of hours (that I've forgotten) is said to reset your rhythm to whenever you sleep, or at least assist. I tried it once when I kept not falling asleep before 4am, and it seemed to work.

(At least, it reset it, and then I started going to sleep later and later again...)

I've never heard of that, how does it work? Like, when would you fast in order to reset to, say, 10pm? And for how long would you need to fast - all day, 10 hours, etc.?

I don't remember how long it was supposed to be, but it was effectively a day for me, due to the amount of time I wanted to shift it. Like, I just read from some random site to fast for at least 16 hours (I'm guessing on the number of hours) prior to when you wanted to go to sleep, but for me 16 hours prior to when I wanted to go to sleep was.... when I was already asleep.

Just googling around for it brings up some studies done measuring the effectiveness after fasting for 36 and 92 hours, which makes me think it might not be completely bogus. I'd expect it to work better the longer you fast for, if it works at all. The explanation I heard is that your body starts going into some kind of state where survival is a much more immediate concern than normal, so the regular causes of circadian rhythms are not as pronounced. Which kind of makes (made) sense to me from an evolutionary perspective; body chemistry is different as it tries to conserve resources, and it makes it easier to stay up foraging for food.

But I dunno, I did it for a day.

(of course, consulting some kind of doctor or nutritionist would be the best way to get information on it and not damage yourself, but that's just not how I roll)

Dangit, so I should have gone to bed on time this evening, as I took "breakfast" at around 5pm (and yesterday's dinner was around 6pm). Oops. At least tonight's excuse is I was watching Black Books.

I kind of want to be Bernard when I grow up.

I actually plan for a bit of insomnia tonight. I want to finish the half-loaded episodes of Stargate Atlantis that I was trying to watch the other night, and it would be nice for once to enjoy my natural sleep cycle.

Aww, thanks! When I finally went to bed, my husband woke up and said "finally!" and I explained the kitty story and then he totally understood. She was so sound asleep that when she did lift up her head her tongue was sticking out. :)
