I expect exactly no one to take me up on this but I'll throw it out anyway...

I'm turning Old in 2013 (I say with a wink) - the big 3-0 - and I have managed to get my birthday off from work. I'll be celebrating by going to Wildberry for breakfast/brunch and watching part of the St. Patrick's Day parade/checking out the dying of the river. Then most likely back to my place but it's still months away, so I'm not really solidifying more than breakfast and the river.

Anyone who would like to help me ring in the wrinkles is welcome to come up/over; I can house someone(s) in the spare room and someone on the couch in the living room.
I hope you manage to stage a party of pinkiepiesque proportions!

Congrats in advance!

Some people here are not FB friends with me or I felt like there was an unspoken "Don't interact too much with me on FB" rule, so I didn't send the invite but to keep it short, zero and I (though he doesn't know it yet) are hosting a get together November 1 for the movie release. So far I have two other confirmed guests but I still have an air mattress and floor space up for grabs to anyone who can make it and wants a free place to crash.

No real plans have been set other than seeing the movie. It'll be a bit cold out so while there will probably be some sight-seeing and most likely a grab of deep dish pizza, it'll probably be kept to a minimum unless people are wanting to brave Chicago in the Fall.

Chicago in the fall sounds like fun. Not too much "braving it" coming from New England winters! Anyway, I hope to make it, but I said that on Facebook anyway :)

I am pretty sure there is no way I can make it, but Chicago in the fall would be positively balmy compared to Alaska in November... But maybe the wind is a bit more nippy?

I'd love to come. I think there is an okay chance I can make it since I'm due for a trip to Chicago to visit family as well, but it really depends on my school schedule.

Yeah...this summer has seen a lot of days with highs in the 70s and 60s and being perfectly honest, without it being slowly worked up to, it left me feeling pretty cold and actually wanting the gross humid days.

So, are you guys planning to see the movie at midnight or later Friday evening? If you guys are planning a midnight shindig, I'll drive up Thursday. If not, I'll probably see it here at midnight then drive up Friday morning aiming for an afternoon arrival. Either way, I have a week of vacation I need to burn by mid-November so I've decided to take that whole week off.

No decisions have been made yet; I don't want to outright declare anything before I know who is coming and when they are coming. Elf is now a strong maybe, btw. :)

If I wouldn't have to miss Halloween with my kids in order to be there, I think I would really try! (Brian would want me to, I know.) But Halloween is our family's favorite holiday and my heart aches to think of missing it with them. :(

Obviously the solution is to bring the whole family and celebrate Halloween in Chicago. ;)

Josh, how nice of you to offer to pay for all 5 of our plane tickets so we can all come. And for providing a babysitter for the kids when we go see the movie! You're so thoughtful!

I can cover the flights no problem, but you'll need to speak with Alea about finding a babysitter in Chicago.

Like, seriously, I know you're being sarcastic and my previous post was teasing, but I'm not s***** around here. I'm looking up flights between Denver and O'Hare on kayak in another tab, so I've got a decent idea how much this will cost.

Woah woah, what's this about midnight showings in Chicago? I've been looking for an excuse to go there because I've never been...Hm...I'll look into finances!

Well...this:
I've never been
is all the excuse you need. But yes, if you can swing it, we'd love to have you along!

Babysitter would be do-able, most likely, but I'd need enough warning to see who among the people I know well and trust enough would be able and willing.

I was hoping to make it down for this, but I don't think I can swing it. I've gotten myself wrapped up in too many campaigns to leave the weekend before election day.

Maybe for the sequel.

Oh yeah, I decided that this would hinge upon me getting my new job or not! I have an interview next Monday, so we'll see how it goes.

I kind of spent a lot of money this summer, and I can only really justify dipping further into my savings if I suddenly get a pay raise...

Good luck mitch on the interview and If I wasn't moving that weekend and the wife was into the movie or book as much as I was...maybe. Sounds like a great idea but I have a goal of moving everything by that day's 3pm mark then the night of the 1st go see the movie, next day move and be good and relax. Plus the very next weekend I'm reffing at a big scenario game the whole next weekend.

I'd love to meet you all face to face, still do. But man bad timing. However the misses has family I'd like to meet in Chicago, so when that trip comes around those of you in the area, well we'll just have to meet up and hang out for a bit!?

Has it been decided if people are seeing the midnight Thursday movie or later Friday? I'm looking at flights. Pretty low chance I can make it, but I'm holding out hope! (I would stay with my family).

That's interesting; I saw a listing on Fandango for an IMAX in Columbia, MD, for Thursday, Oct. 31, also at 8:00 pm or thereabouts!

It appears to be a thing they're doing...so, do we want to go to this one? I'm off work at 5:15 (though get in closer to 6:30 thanks to train schedule...might be able to get around this) and Thomas gets in about 7ish, I want to say. zero should be done by 6, 6:30 at the latest. Hodgkins is maybe a 15 minute drive. We can buy tickets ahead of time to make sure we get in. What do you gents say?
