Postby Jayelle » Tue Mar 30, 2010 10:08 am

Okay, dudes. I thought I knew all the regional words. I knew that many of you don't call a knit hat a toque, but this is a new one.

What do you call these?:

Pencil crayons? Seriously? I've never heard that.

into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

Pencils made with a wax-like interior, so it's hard to erase.

Crayons are wax-like. Colored pencils are just graphite with color.

Colored pencils for sure.

Wow, this is a Canada-ism I had never heard of before. Interesting!

But yeah, colored pencils. Is it because they're made by Crayola?

Those are clearly 944923 isolated pencil crayons.

No, but seriously, colored pencils. Crayons are made of wax and are clearly edible, you crazy canucks!

Here's a question, do you guys usually call people that are muscular, "buff", "ripped", or "swole"?

We say "swole" around here and I know on other forums people have been confused by that word usage.

Buff. Ripped is for pants (i.e. Spongebob Squarepants) and DVD's, and I've never heard of the word "swole" 'till now. Matter of fact, even my spell-checker won't recognize it.

Muscular. Built. Toned.

Not that I can think of many times I've ever discussed muscular people at length. The only time that comes to mind is when I was telling my mom about this patron at work, who is pretty muscular but also sounded like Mike Tyson when he spoke.

My friends use "buff" but I find that sort of disrespectful. I prefer to use "very muscular person".

I've heard teenagers use the term "diesel", which I think is pretty stupid.

I've also heard all of the others except "swole" used interchangeably.

Never heard diesal.

We use buff as more like a person who is big and muscular. Like stocky. Like Shaquille O Neal.

While, ripped is like a skinny person who's muscular.

Or, at least, that's how I think about it.

But, I generally hear swole used here in the deep south.

Yeah, never heard swole before. In fact, I'm hearing "buff" and "ripped" a lot less. Ripped I probably hear more often than the other, but maybe I just don't hang out with people who go to the gym just to gain muscle.
