Nope, it's all removable, since we live in an apartment. The black is decals from the dollar store. They have these big, ugly chandeliers and chairs (that are supposed to look wrought iron, I guess), so I cut them up into bits and rearrange them. Other colours are contact paper, some of it painted or drawn with sharpies. If you stick contact paper to somewhere lint-y (like my carpet) then put it up, it comes off like a removable decal.
Everything is from the Dollar Store, so it's cost me about $5 so far.

We're getting new carpet soon!!!!!
I'll have to take some photos to demonstrate the depth of my excitement about this. Sure, what we're getting are just crappy industrial-looking carpet tiles, but compared to our current disgusting allergen-factory, it will be the carpet of my dreams!

I went and ordered this lamp today. Unfortunately, it won't be in stock until mid-october, but I can't wait to get it!!
Also, the fabric for my magnet boards should be arriving today or tomorrow!!
Now I just have to find the mini-steamer trunks, leather and/or wood tray and lots of cool shaped bottles for my main living room display. Oh, and order picture prints so I can make the ice cream bucket lid photo frames that my brain has envisioned.
Don't worry, Alea, I will post pictures when I get it all together.

Pictures!
It looks fantastic, Kim. Consider me many shades of envious green. I'll put in my request now for the same shots once you have furniture in, for a before and after.

Re: Nesting! Decor in Rooms, Apts, houses etc
Thanks!
Taking more pictures ins the plan! Though, it won't be in it's final furniture configuration until May, when my furniture moves down there.
The master bedroom and kitchen will be mostly done in December. The living room and guest rooms will be in flux until my furniture moves in. My bed is becoming a guest bed. My day bed will be the couch for 6 months then become the second guest bed when my couch becomes the couch. The cat tree witll move in. The bookshelves will move in.
I'm so excited!

That looks wonderful! It's an absolutely adorable house.
I love the kitchen and the fireplace and the cute little white chairs on the front porch.

I have intense kitchen envy, Kim.
And to demonstrate, here are the first round of pics from our new place.

A mismatched pair of British fridges. It's very common here to get fridges by themselves instead of a fridge/freezer (though you can get those too). We ended up with two fridges and no freezer somehow.

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Re: Nesting! Decor in Rooms, Apts, houses etc
We're about half (maybe 3/4) moved into the NC house. We have the master bedroom, master bathroom, kitchen and living room all set up. The front two bedrooms and the guest bath need work. And there willbe some furniture shuffling when my furniture gets there.
Mess!:
The unpacking was so overwhelming! It felt like we worked really hard for two days and nothing happened... then all of a sudden stuff was put away! We ended up with 12 black garbage bags full of packing material and a giant pile of collapsed cardboard boxes for recycling.
Kitchen:
Looking into the kitchen from the pantry area. I love having the appliances out on the counter (for the most part. The crock pot and electric griddle are in cabinets. My hot water pot is still with me.)
Looking at the leg of the kitchen that overlooks the living room. I love having the kitchen open to the living room because I love cooking but hate feeling trapped away from people.
Looking into the kitchen from the back door/laundry area.
Bedroom:
We got new Ikea furniture for Christmas from Nate's parents. I figured it was time to have a real bed. (I've had a real bed for a long time. Nate was doing the bachelor nice-matress-with-crappy-sheets-on-a-metal-frame thing.)
Another view of the bedroom. It turns out those little red lamps are really super red. They cast red light... very... mood-ish.. but, not so much for reading. The one on my nightstand will have to change!
His dresser and the TV. He insists on a TV. My dresser is in the closet.
Master Bath:
Ok, one problem with the house... I hate the lack of bathroom storage. WHY IS THERE NO MEDICINE CABINET? I don't like my bathroom storage out and about for everyone to see. Also, there is not one of those little things you stick the toilet paper roll on.
I have nothing new to add about this one!
Living Room:
Looking into the living room from the kithcen. The daybed will move to the little bedroom. We're also going to change the orientation of the couch and chair when I move there with my furniture.
From the front door. I don't totally dig the wires behind the TV and the electronics tower. We'll see if I ever push enough to get one of those wire tunnels or if I just suck it up.
Looking from the guest bedrooms. We ended up deciding to leave the dog beds out because they can't chew their rawhides on the wooden floor. They slip right out of their little mouths.
Looking at the bar area. The little cedar chest is full of blankets. And I love the doggie toy basket.

Very discontented with the damp issues in our current place, especially with a small baby. Going to go yell at the letting agency tomorrow.

Can you get a dehumidifier or something, Ali? That's gotta be not good for the sinuses either.
I'm getting closer to being able to take pics of the new house. We painted two rooms on Saturday (LR and main bedroom). We had only planned on the living room but it covered so well in one coat that we had a whole extra gallon, so we did the bedroom too. I'm going to Ikea on Friday for curtains and some guest room stuff, so hopefully pics soon!

Re: Nesting! Decor in Rooms, Apts, houses etc
We called for an inspection by the city council this week and got that done. So we have stuff in writing now, if this inattention from the letting agency persists. But they DID come and install a pair of extractor fans with humidistats, so we're really hoping that helps. Also FINALLY got the disgusting moldy blinds removed (only been asking since September) - the "handyman" took them down and put them in the living room and made to leave. I said, can you take them with you, please?, so he rolled them up and took them out to the bins. Seriously, I have been nagging for them to be removed from my living space for months, and you take them down and just dump them on my carpet? What? I've gotten past with this fellow and moved on to . Ridiculous.

We have been doing a lot of this thread's topic.
Yesterday we started to make progress on the infamous spare room.
This boss fight is going to take quite a long time.
