Nom likes me reading Dr Seuss' ABCs book. And it remindS me I'm Canadian every time. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Every single time I read it, I forget and then get to the last page and read "Big Zed, little zed, what begins with zed? A Zizzer-zazzer-zuzz, as you can plainly- DAMMIT!"

Me too!! I say "as I plainly said", but that's kinda lame, I know.

Well, "zeta" is how you call the letter in Spanish. When we learn English we also learn the names of the letters in English, and it's "zed"... most of the time, English teaching in Spain follows BBC pronunciation.

That's a common occurence in my life when i go shopping, when i go to the next room, when i go to the workplace to fetch something i forgot...
Nothing like being a scatterbrain! Luckily i am not responsible for toxic or nuclear waste materials, now that would be fun...

If we've met once or twice, so we know each other to a degree, and I say, "Hey! Jeff Winger, right?" I probably already know your name. But, just affirming it to show that I care enough for you to know that I remember you to the point of remembering your name. To show you that I acknowledge you as more than just a familiar face, but as an actual person who I might get to know in the future.

If you fail to then reciprocate this social dance, then I get the impression you don't care enough about me to know my name or want to learn it. Then I regret acknowledging I remember you - in the first place.

More often then not, I initiate this routine when I know your name, but I am wondering if you remember mine or are willing to admit you don't after going, "Hey man" or "Heyyyyy". So really, you've failed in three different ways.
1. Not knowing my name
2. Not having the guts to admit you don't know my name
3. Giving off the impression that you don't care enough to learn it.

I will then give you a couple more chances to redeem yourself. If you fail, I will refer to you as "hey"/"hey man" or just not make eye contact with you so that I don't have to acknowledge you...I don't consider this that irrational though.

I'm totally in the middle of a replay... This game is a HUGE part of my childhood : )

My shoes were not left at my door, despite me leaving a signed note saying it was okay to leave them at the door. In AZ, this is all UPS needs to leave a package that requires signature.

They're attempting re-delivery tomorrow, typically a day off but I work it this week. It will probably get there after I've left for work. Again.

If it ends up with me needing to go to the UPS location, it is at least 4-5 miles away and I don't believe the bus runs down that way. I know commuter trains don't and I'm not paying $20+ in cab fare to get something that is supposed to be shipped to me for free.

The slip they leave doesn't have a spot to sign to allow for redelivery if you aren't there? If not, I would call them in the morning and ask that it be left. Calling can accomplish a lot!

It has the spot but they crossed it out with a pen, which looks to me like a "Not an option."

I hate UPS, FedEx, etc. etc. Their ONE job is to deliver packages and they suck at it.

Back home we have the multiple letterbox things with a couple bigger boxes for packages (I feel like there is a name for those, but I cannot think of it) at the entrance to the subdivision, so if there isn't room for your package (that's what she said?) you have to drive to the post office sorting place and pick it up, which is super annoying (especially since most of our packages are USPS and we always seem to have to drive). UPS and FedEx have no problem leaving things at the door.

We have the same mailboxes at my apartment complex at school, but since they're just for our complex and pretty sheltered the USPS folk just leave extra packages by the boxes and assume we'll get to it soon enough. Sometimes UPS and FedEx will drop things off at our doors, but sometimes they give our packages to the office or leave them by the mailboxes. I guess it depends on the courier.

Possibly because I left a sticky note with a puppy on it taped to their form near the "Sign here" part on the back.

Yeah, I suppose it wouldn't be as big an issue if I lived in a house. Delivery people always have issues with apartments, but that drives me nuts since they are delivery people. They should know how to deliver to apartments.

And what's the verdict on the shoes?

I tried them on, they fit, they seem comfortable so one of two things will happen: I'll wear them and things will stay that way or I'll wear them and they'll hurt my feet and it won't be any different from most shoes I've had that seemed comfortable at first. Pretty sure it will be the first one until they get old/overused and lose their support. Even if it's not, it will be the first time I've been able to take the "Going to the store" out of the shoe shopping process.

And yeah, USPS and UPS are the only two I've ever had deliver to me here but in both cases, they will not leave packages if I'm not here (unless I leave them puppies...). Luckily, most have come through USPS and that's only half a mile away, so I'm not terribly upset about walking to get those. But 4-5 miles, while not something I can't physically do, is not something I want to devote time to when it's not a recreational walk.

Target makes you spend $50 to get free shipping; Amazon has spoiled me. I am trying to spend money to make myself feel better (something that, sadly, worked quite well years ago) but I don't have much to spend/waste and $50 is pushing it. Especially considering the things I want are only $18. I'd just pay for shipping but the shipping for the two items costs more than one of the items I'm wanting, which seems ridiculous to me.

So I will probably not get anything but argh. $25 should be the standard free shipping cutoff.

Irrational Irritation: The term "tween." Or maybe I just find tweens irritating in general and am channeling it all towards the term.

I take it as a sign that I am now old and crotchety that I invented the term "tweenty" for collegeish 'kids who think they know it all. I didn't say it aloud, but I definitely thought to myself, 'ugh those tweenties!' along the lines of the pejorative use of the term 'tweens.'

It's funnier to me because tweenties looks like twinkies and I think that tweenties survive on twinkies ...

and now that preceding line looks like a Dr. Seuss book.
