In my not very strong defense, I've seen others use that on MySpace/FB just to show momma pride. It never occurred to me that would be an announcement. I'm also just dense.

Very clever, though. :)
That's sort of what I thought. :)

I am working on a huge, crocheted, cabled cardigan for a friend. It is made of serious, heavy-duty 100% wool and this thing is freaking hot. But I want to get it over with so I can get back to making stuff for the craft fair that I'm going to be selling at in September. Blerg.

Oh thanks. It's for me. I'll post pictures when I wear it.

I never can get homemade dresses to fit like store-bought ones. The whole mass-production system works way too well, I guess.

I had way to much fun designing this little yellow origami ship from the EG cover!
I need ideas on what to do with them though! Help?

I don't have pictures (yet) but I spent yesterday and today at work drawing 2.5-3 feet tall versions of characters from CandyLand the board game, including (not sure on all the names...):

King Kandy
Lord Licorice
Lollipop fairy girl
Dog/picnic basket
gingerbread
Tree-guy
Chocolate swamp guy

Volunteers have helped color two of the four that need coloring and one even did a good job of it!

Sorry the pictures are so big, I don't have time to thumbnail them. I drew these, volunteers colored them; I tried to be grateful and not picky about that.

Thanks. :) It felt great to break out a pencil and just draw. I don't do nearly as much of the crafty stuff here like I did in AZ...not sure why since I miss it.

I'm not sure tablet drawings count as crafts but I wasn't sure where else to talk about this.

So, got my tablet on Friday and Saturday after work, I spent time messing around with it in GIMP. zero the got me both SAI and Photoshop, of which I've only messed around with the former, but I'm finding GIMP seemed much easier to just jump into while SAI seems almost too good at handling lines. I've been told it's best to just do lines in SAI and color with PS.

It's a little frustrating to feel like I have absolutely no talent at drawing, because pretty much every last one of my drawings have suggested as much, but I'm trying to remind myself that it will take some time and some setting adjustments if need be to get comfortable with it.

I love GIMP! :) For most of what I want to do, Photoshop is like bringing a chainsaw to make a marshmallow stick.

Hope to see some of your artings some time soon :)

I'm working on making a couple mats for my knot theory class. I'll try and post pictures when the second one is done.

This took 20ish minutes just now and there's really no color and the line work is uneven/shoddy!
Image

This took maybe 5 minutes but is also really not good.
Image

Also about 5 minutes but it's hard to mess up a stick-figure.

My only "complete" picture (with layers, my first time using them, even!) and the only of these 4 to be created in GIMP.

Do you work with layers at all? Or use paths instead of the pencil/paint tools?

The last image is the first time I've ever used layers (it's also the last time for now...I plan to try again, later). Since I've never used GIMP/SAI/Photoshop and just jumped into the programs 3 days ago, I have no idea what paths even are.

zero is getting frustrated that I don't want to look at tutorials or ask artists for help before I start any bad habits but I don't learn well that way for drawing. I need to just tinker and figure out what does what.

I made my baby a Christmas stocking! It's made similarly to his Daddy's first stocking, like a toy soldier. It has some minor imperfections and was a little frustrating - I haven't really used my sewing machine much before now - but it's done! It's cute! My baby has a stocking and I made it!

Photobucket is being dumb and won't let me post a picture. But, I assure you, it is cute!

Layers are awesome because it lets you build up the drawing in stages, and if you mess up one part or need to move it, you don't have to mess up the surrounding places to correct the mistake. Paths are cool because you can throw down a bunch of lines, and then curve them in fun ways, and then finally throw down the "ink" after the shape is how you want it.

Experimenting is pretty much the best way to learn, as far as I'm concerned, but I also always found it nice to know what was there so I could try it.

Yeah, I knew that (to a degree) about layers -zero walked me through using them and told me when/why I might want to use them- but thanks for the heads up on paths. It's all a bit overwhelming and not at all like drawing on paper.

First step: Become friends with the pen and tablet.
Second step -or maybe concurrent step: Stop caring that zero isn't at all impressed with my first attempts since I am until I show him. (To be fair, he's trying to help me by giving feedback.)

What feels like the big difference between tablet and pencil/paper drawing to you?

Um, everything?

I don't have the device in front of me (I'm at work) but whether or not the pen is set to "mouse" or "pen", "screen" or "window," I'm having a hard time getting accustomed to the position of the tool I'm using on the tablet and how that coincides with where it appears on the screen.

It's also an adjustment looking away from my hand; with the tablet, your focus is on the screen and with paper, for me, it's on the paper, where my hand is. It feels more stable on paper, even though the pressure/stability (I think that's what it's called on SAI) settings can be changed. For example, I can draw a pretty great circle on paper with my hand, without use of a stencil. Perfect? No but obviously a circle and without such drastic wavering. While I'm sure there are tools in these programs built-in to make doing a circle easy with the click/tap of a button, I want the same abilities on the tablet that I have on paper. I want to learn to be steady enough in hand to draw a circle unassisted. Same with lines. I know for a fact there is a tool to create straight lines for you but I want to master/get enough control of my hand/tablet/pen to be able to do it on my own.
