The real issue is that not many people willingly choose reading over video games or movies, and the pathetic selection of reading material covered in school is hardly the sort of thing that will turn a kid on to reading. It's a parent's responsibility to show their kid that reading is just as, or mo...

i'd be interested to see if the words translated as evening and morning are actually the Hebrew words for evening and morning, or if they just mean "the beginning and end of a Yom"

I had a state legislator email me asking me to explain Plasma-Gasification technology and suggest resources he could use to educate other legislators on the subject.

also, they said they'd give us more money to buy more pellet stoves for LIHEAP recipients.

While this is a smart man and I agree on his interpretation of the Hebrew word for "day" actually corresponding to the meaning "era" instead of a literal 24-hour day, I cannot agree that this is a basis for believing in evolution. I wasn't arguing for evolution, I'm still undeci...

O come, O come, Emmanuel is the most beautiful song in the whole world. If longing could take musical form, this would be it. It is the heartbreak and hope of generations of a nation put to words, and it leaves me awestruck every time. I see your "O come, O come, Emmanuel" and raise you a...

this week in VT we've had one day that was 0 degrees (Fahrenheit), followed by a 60 degree day, then it started cooling off again and snowed 6 inches followed by an inch of sleet and some more snow. Yesterday the temperature was again in the single digits, and today it was around 25. "Vermont, ...

And that interpretation is not valid when held up against the Biblical text. actually it is, read moar hebrew. "The day-age (progressive) creation account is non-literal and contradicts the clear teaching of Genesis." I hear or see this complaint quite often, although the statement is inc...

Re: Going To The Source

This isn't necessarily true. If the parts we can check are true, the other parts still may or may not be. Similarly, if the parts we can check are false, the other parts may still be true. We have no way to know, if we can't check. as I said, evidence, not proof, if someone has a history of truthfu...

Re: Going To The Source

Here is something I've always wondered. Let's assume for the moment that the bible is actually inspired by God. Many of the claims about God, such as his omnibenevolence, omnipotence, etc., as well as how things happened in Heaven before the Fall, all that is God claiming these things. How do we kn...

Where did you get the idea that God is logical (as humans define it) all the time? You can't be talking about the Christian God, because paradox, or mystery, has been part of the conception of God since the Incarnation. How can a god be fully human and fully divine at once? How can there be three p...

I wonder if we can get a petition going to stop OSC from writing the script himself. "Well you see I had always really intended for Ender to be a Mormon who was suspiscious of Democrats and their gay-agenda, but I never knew how to make it fit in a story about triumphing over great adversity. ...

Pastwatch == good movie?

so, I just got around to reading Pastwatch, and I think it would make a FANTASTIC movie. Also, it further elevated my opinion OSC as essentially the only sci-fi author I've read who knows how to the subject of religion without it sounding preachy (from either side of the discussion)
