Re: Things that I love
Half-day today, just because I can! I think this is the first time in the 3 years I've been working here that I've taken time off just to have time off. No travelling, no holiday stress, just a long weekend

Holy crap, you're right! I'm going to notice that every time now ><YOU GUYS!!! Curious George is not a monkey. They call him a monkey all the time, but he's an ape. He has no tail and never has. Also his front legs are longer then his back.
THIS IS GOING TO MAKE ME CRAZY FROM NOW ON.

Re: Currently Reading / Just Read (Books/stories/whatever)
But mysteries...ugh. Never met a mystery I've actually liked. I'm not a big fan of modern mysteries, but I've found I really enjoy some of the classics like Poirot and other Agatha Christie books. The Name of the Rose was also very good, if somewhat dense. Plus, it's a mystery and a historical fict...

Re: Things that I'm afraid of
I haven't. Is there a brand you recommend (and I honestly don't care if it's a brand your company makes money off of if it's comfortable)? I walk anywhere from 28-43 miles a week, so I want to have comfortable, happy feet as often as possible. The only brand I've ever used is SofSole (the company I...

Re: Things that I love
I love that my family knows I am gift-giving impaired and make me nice, explicit lists from which I can get them things for the holidays. I know some people think that's not as meaningful but meh. I can't shop for anyone without a list without getting anxious to a higher than normal degree, so this...

Have you tried using insoles? I always thought they were kinda gimmicky until I started working for a company that sells them and got some free samples... now I can't wear a pair of shoes without putting insoles in them. Just a thought

Mostly agree with Kirsten but even if I didn't, I wouldn't vote 3rd party simply because the people who are going to have been the pushiest, as far as I'm concerned, about voting for their person. I'm sorry you've had that experience. I think that's one of the unfortunate side effects of supporting...

Hey Bob,
I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a community that can include a thread titled "Politics... Discuss" that doesn't immediately spiral into a flame war. Thank you for restoring some of my faith in humanity.

Thanks for the link, both of you, that was a very interesting read. I'm not sure I agree with all of it, but she makes some very convincing arguments. It's interesting (and a little sad) that "Voting = good" is one of the those pieces of received wisdom, that you're not really meant to que...

This is the most apathetic I've been toward the sports world in a long time. I could really careless about the Eagles. I watch them and I'll root for them because they are my team. And you root for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. But I am just sick of this regime. Andy Reid needs...

Question (stemming from a discussion with the g/f last night): Should you feel obligated to vote if you disagree with both of major candidates? What if you believe the entire system is broken? Should you feel obligated to vote, period?

Re: Currently Reading / Just Read (Books/stories/whatever)
I very much enjoyed the Song of Ice and Fire books (in spite of the scenes that made me want to throw the book across the room and/or punch George R.R. Martin in the face). Any examples from the first two books you'd like to share? :D Haha, I have a very poor memory of what happens in which book. I...

I very much enjoyed the Song of Ice and Fire books (in spite of the scenes that made me want to throw the book across the room and/or punch George R.R. Martin in the face). I'm currently reading Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi, after finishing the first book in the series, Old Man's Mar. The stories t...

For me, the only non-classical boardgame I've been playing with any regularity is Arkham Horror , the extremely complicated boardgame based on the Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos. [delurking to throw in my 2 cents] I agree that this place could use a good makeover, but the content is far more important to me than the look or feel of the place. I think Janus has put it pretty well. In the current political climate, as soon as you call someone a racist, you're tapping into some deep emotions. People stop being rational, on both sides. The person being called racist becomes defensive, and the side doing the name-calling starts to think of th...

The character, not the pwebber.
I stumbled on this news story, and instantly thought of Olhado, from the Speaker series.
It sounds really cool, although kinda creepy too.
