Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

I wasn't saying the movie contradicted his quote. Quite the opposite actually. He specifically said he took out the parts I was complaining about him taking out, and imo, those parts he took out were what made Ender Ender. Okay sure, but what he did didn't actually have any bearing on the movie. If...

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

Sounds like movie-Ender to me, but OSC wasn't the screenwriter, so I'm not sure what you're getting at when you say "he admits he forsook Ender". What works in Ender’s Game is Ender’s leadership of the other kids. He earns their trust by never pretending to know more than he does "I ...

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

I just read this quote by OSC. Well... at least he acknowledges that he forsook Ender completely. So what was the essence, the power of Ender’s Game? Only at the very end, as I created one last draft at a time when it was already clear there was zero chance a script by me would be filmed, did I unde...

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

So many things to say about this movie. - Is it just me or did they completely change nearly every character's personality? Bean seemed friendlier than Ender did. Ender did not come across to me as this empathetic, wise child; he actually seemed rather standoffish. Petra wasn't nearly as playful. T...

Re: General Filming/Production Update Thread

Really insightful! I was a little nervous about how he said none of the scenes in the book are in the movie and vice versa, but now I like that idea better. It won't be forced, and I'll be watching something sort of new. Though I would've loved to see the Battle Room fights, I agree that it'd probab...

Re: Favorite Ender's Game Quote // Ender's Game Pin Giveaway

"Ender's anger was cold, and he could use it. Bonzo's was hot, so it used him."

I could never place the difference between my sister and myself when we were both angry. When I read that, I understood where my sister was coming from for the first time.

Re: Have you fallen in love with an E.G. character?

For some reason, I have always loved Alai. Maybe it's because Alai is a Muslim and he just seems so spiritual, especially in Shadow Puppets when Petra goes to Damascus and sees Alai in the garden. I could picture that scene perfectly. That was my favorite scene in the entire Shadow series. Excellen...

Re: EARTH UNAWARE [The Spoiler-Free Thread]

I have to say this has been a slow reading process for me, but I'm enjoying it. I'm about halfway in. Victor really does remind me so much of Miro. At first, I thought it was just because they both had an "incestuous" love (though it doesn't actually look like Victor and Alejandra were blo...

Re: Reading and Re-reading: Impressions along the way

Ender in Exile gets a bad rep, but it's actually a really cool book, especially coming off the Shadow series because you realize how much you missed Ender. And I liked the storylines on Shakespeare. I really enjoyed the book. :p But I'm a minority opinion.

The retcon is really annoying, though.

Re: Shadows in Flight

I liked EiE. A lot more than this book. But I could just be biased toward Ender. I mean, in SiF, I paid so much more attention when Ender was mentioned than Bean, including Ender Arkanian. Sergeant and Carlotta could've died, and I'd only care about Ender's death just because of his name. So somebod...

Re: Shadows in Flight

I had mixed reactions about this book. Spoilers ahead! Why were Bean's last words, "I love Petra," instead of, "I love you?" Is it because he hadn't said it to her in SotG? That's silly. He just made the same mistake twice. Also, I didn't like that the book called the Hive Queen ...

Re: Finished Ender's Game. What's next?

I would read Ender in Exile next. It follows the logical progression, even if the book is only so-so. The Speaker trilogy stands on its on and it very (and disappointingly) loosly related to Ender's Game. Don't get me wrong, the books are amazing, but Ender feels like a different character. You cou...
