Re: Those Personal Triumphs No One Else Will Ever Understand

I signed up with the Technology and Entertainment Exchange with the National Academy of Sciences as a consultant for film (video) and media, so--hopefully - - I can stop whining about how films never get the physics right!

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

High school and college, FWIW. And I also DO value a person's experience with regard to their opinions. I do not believe that "all opinions are the same." A person with NO experience selecting or directing actors--or being an actor--is just not going to have the awareness or the language, ...

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

PV, Asa Butterfield is--in my semi-professional opinion--incapable of an "on-screen chemistry" with ANYone. I forgave him in "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," since he was only 10 years old. I never really cared about his character, which for that movie in particular is critical....

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

The more I watch this movie, the less and less I like it. I try to like it, but I can't. Maybe if I watch it drunk. But the shots are so damn STATIC. A bunch of talking heads in FAR too many scenes. Ender in center screen. Petra in center screen. Graff in center screen. I feel like I'm watching a dr...

Guys, the above appeal seems to me to be a round-about sales pitch for "African Style Clothing," presented in such a way as to circumvent Bayesian filters.

Any dissenters? Shall I can the poster?

Saw it Monday, in 3D, with a bunch of Whovians--in one of at least two fully packed theaters!

Re: So, when do we get Ender's Game II

Here's MY take on sequels and not sequels: Ender's Shadow: Not going to happen. What's the market? The kids will outgrow their ages by the time any production might begin. NOT going to be a sequel. SFTD: Too cerebral. Nothing to do with Ender as we've seen him; nothing to do with any other of the Ba...

Personally, I really think that he's milked this whole thing for all that it's worth. He's serializing the story, and he's allowing for others (Johnston, his daughter Emily) to mop up for him. He (Card) does this: he starts out great (and I seriously mean that), but then lets things carry on for far...

Darian, HOWEVER that sequence might have played out, it was a dropped opportunity by Gavin Hood. At a minimum, another minute or two of conversation between Val and Graff would have "allowed for" a continuing conversation in the car that we (the audience) DON'T get to see, when we cut from...

I fell so comforted when the only person left with an open mind (where has he or she been when we've needed them all these years?!?) lets us know just how close-minded we all are. I'm wondering if there is any irony in that; if there is, I think I may have missed it.

Then you're looking for a false climax. Fake emotions from the characters for a momentary rush, but a false note in the story. Imagine if Ender and the jeesh were all callous about the destruction of the ships. Imagine if they were really acting like they were playing a game. The fall at the revelat...
