Slim, I recognize the whole "original sin" thing from the Old Testament, but where are you getting this "we asked to be created" stuff? "But because being sinful is mankind's natural state" We have no natural state. We were (or so you claim) created by another being (Go...

Burke's Law: Who killed 711?

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0533831/

(what's funny is that I've been obsessed with the number 17 since high school...and there it is, in *the* answer to *the* question...)

That's the beauty of it...FOUND!

Someone on IMDB may have found the source of the now infamous quote: That's the beauty of it...it doesn't do anything It's here: http://s98.photobucket.com/albums/l269/hosmackah/beauty/?action=view&current=img002.flv The link to the IMDB discussion is here: http://imdb.com/board/bd0000001/nest/7...

Because Coriolis forces are position independent and velocity dependent, I predict that there is NO solution to the problem that involves only static masses.

Jota,

I do, in fact, challenge you to find such a mass.

I believe that Einstein was speaking of linear systems, as opposed to rotational (and also, as opposed to non-linear, but that's a different matter entirely)

In a linear acceleration field, maybe. But a rotational acceleration field (centripetal acceleration), you've got all sorts of secondary effects, such as Coriolis, gradients, odd behaviors (ball dropping, to name just one), other vestibular effects...so it's unfortunately not the same.

Jota, That's why the set-ups in 2001's "Discovery" and in "Mission to Mars" wouldn't work. There'd be vomiting all over the place. Not to mention Coriolis effects on your vestibular canals (inner ear)! It's why I've made the habitation rings for the Battle School a reasonable 162...

Neo-D, You are correct. Air friction, however, would be (as they say) a bitch. BTW, trajectorries of objects within the centripetal "field" (the artificial gravity) aren't quite the same as under a normal gravitational field. If you release a ball, or toss it up (or if you jump up), you do...

Local, staet and federal laws trump religious laws. Obviously you can't force a Jewish person, for instance, to eat pork, or to turn on a light on a Saturday. If the POTUS should, one day, be an orthodox Jew, then if something's "going down" on a Saturday, he damn well better well be there...
