Here's another entry in the "heartwarming" category.
Spiderman to the rescue

An unusual disguise has helped a Bangkok fireman rescue an eight-year-old boy who had climbed on to a third-floor window ledge, Thai police say.

The firefighter dressed up as the comic book superhero Spider-Man in order to coax the boy, who is autistic, from his dangerous perch.

Police said teachers had alerted the fire station after the boy began crying and climbed out of a classroom window.

It was reportedly his first day at the special needs school.

Efforts by the teachers to persuade the pupil to come back inside had failed.

But a remark by his mother about his passion for comic superheroes prompted fireman Somchai Yoosabai to rush back to the station, where he kept a Spider-Man costume in his locker.

The sight of Mr Somchai dressed as Spider-Man and holding a glass of juice for him, brought a big smile to the boy's face, and he promptly threw himself into the arms of his "superhero", police said.

Mr Somchai normally uses the costume to liven up fire drills in schools.
That last sentence just adds something wonderful to the story. Somewhere out there, a man conducts fire drills dressed as Spiderman. On a regular basis.

Yeah, I was scratching my head about the Spider-man costume in his locker until I read that last part. I mean, I keep a Batman costume in my closet, but that's only because I don't want to look like a nut when I go out at night and beat up criminals. 8)

Particularly the last sentence :)

Swansea breaks the smurfing world record:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstop ... ansea.html

The Welsh city was turned blue as a group of 2,510 people, the majority of whom were students from the local university, crammed into the Oceana nightclub to almost double the previous record.

The event was organised by UK fancy dress costume seller Jokers' Masquerade and was not verified until 1am as every "Smurf" had to be checked to make sure no natural skin was showing.

Wow, another reason Nestle is evil.

I'm kind of torn on Nestle. On the one hand, I was thrilled when they rolled out their nut-free bars. I HATED having to take chocolate away from kids if there was a nut allergy. On the other hand, huge corporation. On the one hand, making their kit-kats fairtrade (in the UK< anyway). On the other hand, sacking the Rowntrees label for chocolate, in the city where Rowntree founded his business and still had the chocolate factory to this day.

Cocoa Camino is still tastier, though, no matter how you slice it.

My reasons for Nestle-hatred is their pushing of formula in the third world - telling mothers it was better for their babies then breastmilk, but the mothers were using contaminated water to make it and often watering it down to make it go further.

"God Hates Sentries" was my personal favorite, but "Kill All Humans" was very nicely stated.

Is it my imagination, or does the Viper sound really similar to the kid from Firefly that pretends to be dead and then isn't dead and then really dies? "If you can't walk, you crawl, and if you can't crawl, well."

Ooh, I have a good one! Pretend to be a Timetraveler Day!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEtVGsV2EcQ

This has to be the greatest idea ever. This guy walks around pretending to be a time traveler. He walks up to random people and hands them business cards with a phone number on them. "I know that you are one that I can trust. If you are still alive in 20 years, please call this number."

Great stuff.

I did that two years ago! Only I had to work that day, so I dressed up (with a suit I bought just for the occasion) and gave many non-sequitur answers to coworkers about almost everything.

Of course, working at a call center ruined the illusion.

Lol, and the fact that im sure everyone already knew who you were. Well, i guess you could have answered the phone with "John Connor speaking...."

Fake edit: wait, i guess John Connor never traveled through time.....

Gorilla attacked by banana.
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (AP) - The manager of a cell phone store in Ohio called 911 to report a gorilla had been attacked by a banana.

The Wireless Center in Strongsville, near Cleveland, advertises at curbside with a man in a gorilla suit. Manager Brandon Parham says he was watching last week as a kid dressed as a banana emerged from some bushes and took a flying leap at the store mascot.

Parham says the attacker looked like a Spartan from the movie "300" - except he was a banana.

The gorilla was knocked down but got back up, adjusted his head and went back to work.

WJW-TV reports the banana split - running down the street with other teens.

Police think it was a prank. They weren't able to find the offending fruit.
