Back in ye olde yesteryear, when the earth was overrun with crappy CRT monitors that flickered like flickering was their true purpose, I grew to love light on dark text.

Reading copious amounts of dark on light text in one sitting--such as checking in on Pweb--ended with strained eyes and a headache as often as not. Switching to light on dark felt better immediately. I inverted my display and never turned back.

I have no issue reading dark on light on modern LCD monitors, but I've grown used to light on dark. "Does it do light on dark?" is still a deciding factor when choosing a piece of software to code or write in just because I feel more comfortable with that soothing sea of black, rather than retina burning white.

I usually just go to the default, so I am going to go with dark on light for poll purposes.

As far as lucid lime goes, it's the lime part that makes it uncomfortable.

I have always preferred light text on a dark background. I feel that the bright background put far more strain on my eyes then focusing on the light colored text.

To me, dark on light just feels more natural. It's the way books are printed, so it's the way I expect text to be displayed.

I fall in the Light on Dark crowd. I'm not sure why, but it seems that more "techie" people prefer light on dark than non techies.

Maybe it's something to do with our geeky nature.

Do you have scientific backup for that statement? I question its accuracy.

I said "it seems like" it's really an opinion. Not a statement of fact.

Oops, I voted for the wrong one. I'm light on dark, it's easier on my eyes. I'm not a HUGE fan of the theme overall, but I like the light text on dark background. I don't notice it much most of the time but when I get tired the eye strain gets to me. Switching from the default theme to the lime one was an immediate tension reliever for me.

I just thought this had to do with us reading more stuff on a computer screen than most other people; clearly it's better, but you just don't notice unless you're staring at it for X hours a day.

...or because terminal emulators tend to default to gray-on-black (or at least they used to; xterm etc), and I tend to be looking at those all day already...
