As someone who has tied so much of my tech to Google it's hard for me to wrap my head around this.

I am Google's lifeblood. I have an android phone, have my own personal domain that's forwarded to Google for email, my schedule is in Google calendar, I have all my personal documents in Google docs, I track my retirement fund in Google finance, I navigate with Google maps, I use Google voice to transcribe voicemail on my cell phone, I listen to Google music at work, I've replaced Facebook with Google plus, I follow the news and websites with Google reader, i IM with my friends through google talk, and I recently purchased a book through Google books.

I'm not even sure I listed everything Google does for me. Looking at that list kind of scares me. Google knows everything about me and if they shut down I would be screwed.

okay. I thought you meant you don't search for things at all, and that just made no sense.

Still, though, Bing? Ick.

bing tends to give me the results I want right away, but with google I don't always get what I am lookingfor in the first couple posts.
So *you're* the one. ;)

Very much this.

I'm mostly indifferent toward Bing. I'm sure it works, but I have no reason to use it with Google around.

However, I do hate Bing maps. They're arguably prettier than Google's, but I don't know how or why they choose which names to show and which not to. They're never the right names. I always have to zoom waaay in to find the names I need.

I do prefer google maps and I use google talk with my husband when he's at work. I have a google email that use solely for ebay and etsy (my personal emails are both yahoo). I can't think of anything else that I like google for. I do have google+ but haven't really got into it yet.

I use mapquest for maps, but I do use gmail as my primary email address. I have a google+ account that I haven't really figured out.

Android phone, and I've recently transferred my sprint phone number to Google Voice. Gmail being my now-primary email account. Google docs all the time. Google is my primary search engine. I use Google reader obsessively at work. When I have things I need to remember I use Google Calendar. I use Google Shopping to find reviews and the best prices for things occasionally. Google Maps all the time.

The one thing that Google did abandon on me was 1-800-GOOG-411. It was extremely handy if out and about (especially when driving) or without 3g service to just call that number to find the number for a business and get connected to them, or find traffic information, or weather, or news, or really anything. Luckily, 1-800-BING-411 was there to take over for them. That is the only BING-related thing I use, however. Their search engine blows.

There's a Bing 411?!

The loss of Goog 411 drove me to finally get a smart phone.

I pretty much exclusively use google services for both professional and personal services.

E-mail? Check.
Calendar? Check.
Docs? Check.
Gchat? Check.
Voice? Check.
Maps? Check.
Search? Check.
Reader? Check.

I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of making the "e" eat the "l" on the Jim Henson Google doodle.

Confession: I wish I had stayed away for longer instead of trying to rush back into posting. I don't feel comfortable on the board right now and especially not in the chat because I feel like people are looking at me as some sort of power-hungry, responsibility-shirking, drama queen trouble-maker when that is not the intent at all.

I f****** hate all this.

I forget, are we not supposed to respond to confessions?

Ah well. Alea, I think Dr. Seuss said it best: “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”

In other words, I wish you would stop going into voluntary exile just because you're worried about how people see you. I think you have a lot of friends here who fall into the category of those who matter.

I didn't mean I was leaving. I meant I'm frustrated and feel uncomfortable for running my mouth and wish I had backed off a bit last week. Too late for that. I'm here, I'm sticking around, I just feel much the same as I have all week to varying degrees, which is, on the whole, rather crappy.

Same difference. You shouldn't feel crappy over speaking your mind. Easier said than done, I know, but anyone who lost respect for you over it doesn't matter.

I have to disagree. Everyone on this board, whether they respect me or not, matters since I rather respect them, even if it may not appear to be the case.

You are kind to say what you did, though. Thank you.

They do matter, which probably means they don't mind. Haven't you been paying attention? :P

Now just smile and nod so I can go to bed.

I think what neo is trying to say is that we all love you, Alea.

Though I guess I shouldn't speak for everyone. I, at least, love you being here. And I'm kind of a big deal, so my opinion matters more than anyone else's. :stoned:

Grr. Tried to post too quickly after I previously posted.

I never know how I'm supposed to react to such things but thanks, Shannon (and Jason). :)

With that said, I promise, I was just venting a frustration and if it was irrational or dumb, well, nothing new. It's been a stressful week, I do feel like crap, I don't think people dislike me in general but I don't think they're a fan of arguments I've been a part of from the get-go; that makes me feel bad. (Please see Helen's post in the I Hate Thread)

That was not directed specifically at anyone, Alea. I don't hate you or even dislike you.

CONFESSION:

This evening, my 19 month old daughter tripped, fell, and got a little cut on her chin. I was this close to driving her to the Emergency Room to make sure she didn't need stitches. By this close, I mean, she was strapped up in the car seat, and I was making sure I had my up to date insurance card on me.

Then I realized it had already stopped bleeding, and she was laughing and smiling, pulling off the bandaid, and poking at her chin.

Instead of the Emergency room, I drove her to the closest mini mart, and bought her a small QUIK for her nighttime bottle.

That's right. I'm THAT daddy.

Confession: I'm ready to pack now for the trip next week (!!).

Also, I am nervous. Very, very nervous.

But excited.

Still, kind of nervous.

(We should probably talk soon about details and stuff. Like, where I can stalk you in your sleep if you're staying the night those two nights, and where/when we're all meeting...you know, the basics.)
