Your Dream Team

Make up 4 lists of 4 people. One is fictional characters you'd want along with you for achieving some goal, and the second is real people, living or dead for that same goal. The third is fictional characters you'd just like to be friends with, and the last is again real people, living or dead for the same reasons.

I'm a bit wiped out at the moment and want to take at least a few minutes to think about it, so no lists from me quite yet.

1st list, fictional characters for a goal.
Goal: universal domination/absolute transcendence
1.) Amazo (a.k.a. A.M.A.Z.O., a.k.a. Ivo's Android, a.k.a. the Golden Android, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazo)
2.) Dr. Strange (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Strange)
3.) Darth Plagueis the Wise (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Plagueis)
4.) Jane (http://endersgame.wikia.com/wiki/Jane)

I think that list speaks for itself if you know who those people are. I wager we accomplish our goal in about 10 minutes. Maybe longer if we take our time.

2nd list, real people (living or dead) for a goal.
Goal: similar to first, but limited - global, benevolent rulership and spiritual transcendence.
1.) Yeshua ben Nazareth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeshua_ben_Nazareth)
2.) Siddartha Gautama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gautama_Buddha)
3.) Isaac Newton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_newton)
4.) Leonardo da Vinci (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo_da_Vinci)

Again, speaks for itself.

3rd list, fictional characters as friends.
1.) Raven (http://www.comicvine.com/raven/29-3584/)
2.) Quatre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quatre_Rab ... rba_Winner)
3.) Zelda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Zelda)
4.) Acheron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark-Hunters#Acheron)

4th list, real people (living or dead) as friends. I'm gonna go with all living, since I think the 2nd list pretty much covers all the not-currently-in-flesh-and-blood-people I want (or already have!) as friends.
1.) Tenzin Gyatso (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenzin_Gya ... Dalai_Lama)
2.) Dr. Andrew Weil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Weil)
3.) Soke Masaaki Hatsumi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masaaki_Hatsumi)
4.) Anthony Bourdain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Bourdain)

There ya go. Any questions?

I really wouldn't put Newton and "benevolent" in the same place

That's because you're ignorant.
"Newton... was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian who is considered by many scholars and members of the general public to be one of the most influential people in human history. His 1687 publication of the Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica is considered to be among the most influential books in the history of science, laying the groundwork for most of classical mechanics...

Newton built the first practical reflecting telescope and developed a theory of colour based on the observation that a prism decomposes white light into the many colours that form the visible spectrum. He also formulated an empirical law of cooling and studied the speed of sound...

In mathematics, Newton shares the credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the development of the differential and integral calculus. He also demonstrated the generalised binomial theorem, developed Newton's method for approximating the roots of a function, and contributed to the study of power series...

Newton remains uniquely influential to scientists, as demonstrated by a 2005 survey of members of Britain's Royal Society asking who had the greater effect on the history of science and had the greater contribution to humankind, Newton or Albert Einstein. Royal Society scientists deemed Newton to have made the greater overall contribution on both...

The 100 by astrophysicist Michael H. Hart ranks Newton as the second most influential person in history (below Muhammad and above Jesus)..."
And so much more.

Doesn't "benevolent" mean kind or compassionate?
How does your quote show that as one of his qualities?

I like your list, though.

Perhaps the reasoning is that providing scientific insight and progress is inherently benevolent because it results in a world of reduced suffering due to ignorance.

i don't know if i could answer this without being supplied the goal. i mean my lists for say going to war would be completely different than if the goal was to fight a dragon, or super genius, or buy a pizza or write a book report.

nope i can't do this one, too many options.

What CeneZ said.

Newton was the first scientist. I revere his achievements, because he opened the gates of knowledge to the mankind. In many aspects he is a role model for most theoretical physicists... but he was an odious person.

Possibly.

But, it isn't. Scientific progress is not inherently anything, because while one can do good with scientific advancements, one can also choose to harm other people. At the same time modern medicine eases our suffering, modern weapons cause people to suffer.

This list made me "awww," Jota. I suppose that means it has succeeded.

Also, Qui Gon: Heck yes.

Isn't Quinn the one who got pregnant by that jerk? And decides to be crazy hormonal? What goal are you accomplishing with her? Just a question.

That's the one. I relate a lot to Quinn, because in high school I did both the cheerleading thing and the drama thing. I know what it's like to live between those two lines. She dealt with a lot of bad things (pregnancy, pressures of popularity and losing it, eating disorders, losing her boyfriend because of something that's entirely her fault, etc), and despite it, she seems well-grounded. She's a good person. Everyone messes up, but she sticks with her morals in the end and becomes a better person because of it. She's actually a really strong person, if you think about it.

With both lists, I just basically picked people I thought were a combination of well-grounded, down-to-earth, cool, fun, sweet, funny, etc - the sort of things I'd look for in friends around here :P

For friends (fictional):

Samus Aran

Is there anything that combination of people/fish-things/AIs cannot accomplish?
