What are usergroups and how do you create them? I clicked on it and it just said no groups exist.

"These are the mysteries," [JL] said in a deep whisper. "Do not pry into them. Terrible
things happened to the last [pwebber] who tried. He was discovered hanging by his feet from
the ceiling of the bathroom, with his head stuffed in the toilet."

If you can't recognize that quote, I don't think you ought to be here. :)

I've only read the series once and there's only so much I can remember. When I get excited I tend miss some stuff. It's awful, but, who said that?

Don't gang up on me. I'm obviously not very smart. No need to make me feel worse. :)

Maybe they weren't ganging up on you. Maybe they were just grouping together against you to prove you wrong. Possibly, they were ganging, but ganging is totally different than grouping against you. Duh

I don't think anyone really knows what usergroups are. I think at one point, there was something going on with them, but the idea was dropped or forgotten for some reason. I'm not sure. I haven't been a part of pweb for a very long time, so I can't really say, but it's been like that since I started here.

Does that help any?

I'm sure Jayelle has already fully explained that nobody knows what usergroups are.

Yeah, that's what I thought. But I think The Polish Boy overlooked that.

Maybe. I've been known to do that too so...

I think polish boy just assumed that 'nobody knows' is a generalization, and may or may not be true. Just because nobody who gives a crap knows doesnt mean nobody knows. Maybe back in its former days of glory...

It's just a functionality of phpBB that we don't use, particularly because the admin sort of just installed phpBB after our last crash because it was easy. We were using OpenBB forever.

It simply lets the mods group users so as to afford different groups with different privileges. For example, some forums use it so that n00bs can only reply to already-created threads, not create their own, cannot send Private Messages, or whathaveyou. We don't have that, here; if you create an account, you're given all of the posting privileges afforded to everybody.

They're also useful if your forum has different "levels" of membership, where certain forums aren't open to lower levels. If Pweb was owned by some of the members (who doesn't want Pweb stock?!) and had a super-secret "Shareholder only" forum, creating an usergroup would be the easiest way to ensure only those specific people would have access.

which is why we have a mod forum y'll can't see.

Yeah, well... we have a Make Fun of Adam forum that you can't see. So take that!

Did the privileges on depend on your rank?
