Word: Jeesh
Meaning: army
Origin: Arabic
In a sentence: Bean and Petra were part of Ender's jeesh.
Sorry guy, but jeesh is a take on the russian word "geez" meaning the grouping of force into an element or formation.

Sorry, dude, but i think ^Peter is right.

Here, check this out:http://web.archive.org/web/200009010713 ... chool.html

It says that "Jeesh" is Arabic from "Jaish". But the Russian explanation does make sense. Sorta.

I don't have any of the books with me and I can't remember any others but I just wanted to say how much like the word "Kuso."

I use it around my friends a lot, too. That, and Oomay.

Haha, nice. I sometimes do that to. And eemo.

Oh yeah!! I love using Battle School slang on people who haven't read it. It's amusing to watch their frustration when they try to get me to tell them what it all means.

Exactly! It's really funny. :D Like someone will say something I don't agree with, and I'll be all, "That's a bunch of Kuso" and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Well, using words like 'kuso' would surprise not so many of my friendly-geeky friends, as they happen to be if not anime fans, then in quite some knowledge of Japanese. So no help there, and I'd come across a bit as harsh, I guess. But there are other words that work, just... Not this one particularly.

Mierda. Bullshit. Don't give a crap where it came from.

If I recall correctly, they actually use the Latin (or Italian or Portuguese) "merda," rather than the Spanish "mierda."

I have just gotten into the Ender series and it is definitely one that draws you in quick. While looking through all of these posts, I found the topic of a Battle School slang to be especially interesting. It just adds so much more meaning to the story to know what this lingo actually means and where it comes from. From looking at all the posts, the slang has origins in English, Japanese, Arabic, Swahili, Russian, Latin, and unknown. This really shows how integrated the IF is concerning their recruits from around the world. These countries have not been known for cooperation throughout history. The only way this slang could be imbedded in the Battle School is to have an extremely diverse population at the school. The IF only takes the best of the best from the entire world regardless of their origins and for them to believe that Ender was the only chance they had speaks volumes on his abilities.

The recently released Authorized Ender Companion has a super comprehensive list of Battle School slang. Over 60 terms with meanings and linguistic origins.

They're paying you to be on Pweb and push OSC stuff, aren't they?

Have I mentioned that OSC books make great Christmas gifts? Get them wherever Tor books are sold!

It's interesting how the slang isn't used as much in Battle School as much as it's used after the war.

Now I just need to recruit someone and convert him or her to OSC fiendhood and then we can go around talking in Battle School Slang.

I kinda wanna start using battle school slang in everyday conversations. but every one would give me mierda about it. Except maybe here...

by Jeesh_girl15
Definitely. But these aren't just your ordinary everyday conversations... They are super awesome special conversations between the Elite Ender's Game loving fan club (maybe I stretched that a bit much...)

haha. Well I'm just glad to be talking to people who have read all the books. Nobody else I know has read them. Or hasn't read them recently...

That's exactly how I discovered this amazing forum. I was lonely, not being able to share my love of Ender's Game because not everyone I know has read it and those who do (we read for English class) don't like it.

I pride myself on my Ender fandom. Above all. And there's a lot of people that just don't exemplify what an Ender fan should be.

That wasn't directly aimed at anyone though. Guilty conscience?

Were doing the nomenclature in chemistry( it's probably the only thing I understand in that class) and there was a chemical equation that said

CuSO

It reminds me of kuso everytime I see it.
