The cats in my neighborhood are jerks and/or evil geniuses.
One of them started nonchalantly walking right up to my dogs last night, kind of with a "Sucks to be you, tied up like that" swagger and I was pretty damn tempted to accidentally let go of at least little man's leash.
Another had somehow managed to open a trash can. The thing is about 4 feet tall with a hinge lid that is pretty heavy; depending on where I'm standing while trying to lift it, I have been known to struggle. I suppose a person might have left it open but I don't see why they would and it's not something that could be opened without intending to open it. I blame the cat.

They always do this they first measure well what's the maximum range of a dog's leash and after that they begin the taunting. One of them started nonchalantly walking right up to my dogs last night, kind of with a "Sucks to be you, tied up like that" swagger
Yes, they are jerks... that's why i like cats so much better than dogs: cats are much more like human beings.

Wow, Alea, you and I are like mirror opposites this week
I think the cats sound pretty damn cool. And I admire their ingenuity if it was them that got the garbage lid off.
And cat body language is very different from dog body language, which is part of the reason the two species end up fighting so much (note: my personal theory which means this next paragraph may be full of s***). In dog language, tail up means dominance. In cat language, tail up means friendliness and curiosity. So, the dogs figure the cats are trying to be dominant, and they put their own tails up to try to show the cats who the boss is. The cats figure, "Oh, hey, their tails are up, they're being friendly back," and then get really pissed off when it turns out the dogs were lying.
At least, that's my random extrapolation of interspecies quarrels based on Cesar Millon and my gajillion cat trivia books.

Oh, miscommunication. Rearing its ugly head in relationships since the beginning of time.
The trash lid thing is pretty impressive (hence the evil genius comment, though I suppose it isn't nice to assume all geniuses are evil) but that brave cat sauntering up to my furry people got me my arm pulled extra hard. That made me temporarily cranky and vengeful.

I know some of both, but I have absolutely no desire to do meth.Nope, meth has higher profit margins. I don't actually know anyone who makes that either, but we certainly have more than our fair share of them around here.I was thinking today that most of you probably don't know anyone who operates a moonshine still.
Yay, I'm a llama again!

As our return to England approaches, I find myself dropping more and more into British slang/dialect. I don't really mind this, but it will probably confuse other people for a while.

"You guys and your f****** movies!" So says my mom's boyfriend as my brother and I are curling up in laughter after our latest exchange of quotes.
He, my mom's boyfriend, has finally realized that pop culture (mostly movies, but also some TV and music) is our M.O.
It frustrates him because 1) it can be annoying and 2) it can be excluding. I understand how much it sucks to feel left out of things but on the other hand, it's our thing.

I can't find the Missing Members thread (what was it called? I have no clue), so I'm just going to stick this here:
Adam! Where the crap are you?? You post in the Harry Potter thread from a broken keyboard or something and you haven't been around in ages. Duuuuudeee.... come back, we're moving the domain and your input would be really good.

I'm watching a 60 Minutes interview with Mark Zuckerberg and they were showing his facebook page and the only book they showed on his page was Ender's Game (he had lots of movies and music).

I had no idea where else to post this, but I knew Alea at least would appreciate it, given the preponderance of classic 80s comedies in the list:

I watched that JUST THIS WEEKEND, and had absolutely no idea that it was so great! I assumed I loved it ten years ago because I was a lot more naive about movies then, but no. No, it is quite an awesome movie. And Alan Rickman is easily the best part of it, although Sam Rockwell steals more than enough scenes, and Tony Shaloub is hilarious, and Tim Allen is actually kind of funny a bit.I had no idea where else to post this, but I knew Alea at least would appreciate it, given the preponderance of classic 80s comedies in the list:

We watched it on Thanksgiving. My cousin had never seen it before. She didn't realize it was a spoof comedy and so she always steered away from it. We educated her in the glorious world of Galaxy Quest.
I <3 Tony Shaloub.

Yup, the first one. It's due at the beginning of July. I'm hoping my brother will be sticking around here for grad school so I can actually see it sometimes.

My sister-in-law is upstairs whistling along with the Stargate SG-1 theme song. This is both awesome and unbelievably dorky, and either way I'm jealous because I can barely whistle at all.

Since 6PM yesterday, our Circulation software/program has been unable to connect to...a server? Something that enables us to use it. The only function we can do is check items out, without being able to verify anything, like if the patron is even in good standing. There have been a lot of instances of people wanting to renew, pay fines, etc. that we had to explain couldn't be done.
This same software affects our computer reservation system, so there were numerous issues there, too. More than for Circulation, by a whole hell of a lot.
We couldn't shelve anything that wasn't already processed (not much), couldn't mark items as being used to have more ready to shelve. It was either shelf-read, help patrons, or do nothing work-related. All of us did a lot of all three. It was kind of nice, like a mental health day that I got paid for.
The two Ms and I had entirely too much fun this afternoon as a result.
