I'd have to say 4 sounds like an all time high for an especially boring and horny day, four times a day? sounds downright painful. Once a day, in general, is enough (and I'd imagine is closer to typical), though 4 or 5 times a week sounds about right. Considering the embarrassing nature of saying how often one does masturbate I'm probably underestimating. :-p

this is also a question that I've always been curious about with girls. I've had a girlfriend who claimed to have never done it (and all things considered, I believe her) and another who's said 2-3 times a day, so there seems to be a similar range than with boys.

Personally, it varies quite a bit.

Sometimes I'll go a week 3 times a day, and sometimes I'll go a week without it entirely.

The record among my friends (the current holder apparently made a day of it) was 16 times. No one really cares to challenge it.

But average among us is probably every other day. During the summer I imagine the average goes up, because it does for me. Twice a day, though, is tops. It can get pretty painful after that. The aforementioned record-holder (who beat out a massive 14 time) said it was really, really, really painful.

From this female's experience:

Post-period, once every single day for about a week, week and a half. On very rare occasions, twice in a day.

Then I slow down to every other day or every couple days for a few weeks until my period comes back.

If I'm late in getting my period, I consider it like a gift from God that I have the period-like desire and the ability to non-messily partake; I'll go back to at least the once a day while waiting.

But there are times where I'll go for weeks or months, as in when my nieces or brother are living here and making their presence known, at which point I make time during the rare quiet moments lest I should wake up and find my sleeping self didn't want to wait any longer.

i've never really kept track. sometimes quite a few times a day, others not so much. age has a lot to do with it. really good way to put a cap on the day though. it'll put you right to sleep. i'm married now, so once a day. sometimes more.

i think my wife never does it. i think that she feels it's my job. can't really complain about that.

For me, 3-6 times a week when I'm living alone/with someone I'm not in a relationship with, 5-10 times a month now that I'm living with someone I'm in a relationship with. Not sure exactly why the change - privacy issues, probably.

Also, when I was living alone but in a relationship, the frequency was higher than when I was not in a relationship. Similar increases to what others have described right before my period and in the middle of my cycle (I assume around when I'm ovulating).

oddly enough when dating my last girlfriend (which was a year and a half ago, oy) I had no real desire/urge to do so, so I'd go five or six days without even noticing I hadn't done it. :-p (we were only able to be together on weekends due to our off schedules. which is remarkable because forgetting about it isn't something that has happened since I started when I was fifteen or so. :-p

See, it's not lack of quality sex that still makes me want to do it, because I still get that regularly. It's more like they're two different, both really good things. I want them both, rather then just one.

Here's a similar question that I'm curious about along the same lines of the current discussion. Now, I know that my average time in between masturbating is a bit higher than the norm, with about every other day being the pattern I fall into, but I find my inability to go longer than that pretty embarrassing, in that I can't remember the specific last time I went a week without. I remember that once I went a whole month and felt damned proud, but that was long ago. Of course, my sad lack of ever having a romantic relationship might be to blame, but I'm no expert in these matters for pretty obvious reasons. So what's everyone's average length in "dry spells" for masterbations?

For me, on average once a day. Some days it might be twice, some days I might not do it at all. My longest self-imposed-dry-streak was about a month. I found myself caring for a significant person in my life at the time and out of a sort-of respect for said person I abstained. This was not because I was fulfilling this desire elsewhere, I was not, I just felt it "most right" to stop.

I think of masturbation as a want and not a need personally. While I understand the physical and psychological benefits both males and females get from it, I also believe it to be a luxury that at times can be more of an inconvenience than anything else. As such, I believe it to be a strong virtue for one to be in control of this nature so that it does not control them.

dry spells for me have maxed out at 6-10 days when I was consciously trying not to, which usually resulted in several days of a couple times a day afterwards, which is out of the normal range. I think my longest self-imposed dry spell was about 3 weeks (I could be misremembering this 'traumatic' time as much longer than it was) when my then first girlfriend expressed how abhorrent and disgusting she found the act to be (since sex was icky anyway, and should really be put off until she was done with graduate school (we were freshmen)), she asked how long a dry spell I'd ever had and I replied about ten days. she then challenged me to go longer. :-p

well I have a competitive streak a mile long, and that led to the three week dry spell.

I also tend to have dry spells just after I develop crushes, because I'm trying not to think of them and I having sex while we're just getting to know each other, so it's primarily out of respect for the girl, I suppose, and out of a sense of not wanting to jinx myself.

I go through phases, sometimes it'll be once a day, sometimes I won't be as meticulous, and sometimes I do go through that twice a day phase that locke mentioned, which is a fun phase. I try not to do it on the weekend or before I'm going out so that I'll have that extra drive to "pull" as we say around these parts for getting a girl.

Yea, I remember that. I find it extremely likely to be the case for some women, and rather unlikely for others. Some women are very male in their sexual desires, and actively pursue them the way men would, whereas others don't.
