I looked, but I haven't seen any earrings like those flowers. I've seen some treble clefs, and they seem to range from $5-30 - I figure $10 is about right. Mine aren't flashy or sparkly, but they're a good shape, compared to what I see. And I see a fair amount of button earrings, but again, not like mine.

Right now I'm working with copper, because I like the colour and it was inexpensive to experiment with. But I'm going to start with other metals (sterling silver and stainless steel) when I get a few spare bucks. The button ones are, I believe, stainless steel. There's a local bead store with a pretty excellent selection, but I'll keep that website in mind!

Ooooh, pretty! I should re-pierce my ears so I can buy earrings from both you and Luet.

I wouldn't get earrings like those (it's the dangly factor) but I would definitely consider them for necklace pendants.

By the way, Nomi, a male patron liked my earpins. He asked for directions and at the end of me giving them, replied with "Thanks and I love your earrings" as he bolted out the library.

I really need some thinner-gauge wire. But in the meantime, I'd welcome some feedback on this guy:

What do you think he is? (For reference, he stands just shy of three inches tall, feet to crown.)

I think he looks like a dodo bird!

I'm glad you got a compliment, Alea!

I would second the dodo bird.

Look what I got in the mail today!

(from Mich, who spelled my last name hilariously wrong on the package)

Thanks, dude! I've totally played Wind Waker, so it's just as awesome as Hourglass.

Hey, I figured one misspelled name deserved another.

Glad you like it! It was stupidly fun to make. Fun enough that the other one I was working on just got put off more because it's less fun.

Edit: mailing to Canada is fun. I had to fill out a form and everything.

Hey, I figured one misspelled name deserved another.
Jan misspelled your name? Or am I reading that incorrectly? Because your name is basically John Smith in terms of difficulty.

I have no idea how I spelled it wrong, I think I know what I did, but it's because I was thinking of something else at the time.

I'm still impressed by this, Jan; I didn't think it was possible. :P

You spelled it "Vox," which was so silly I figured it was on purpose. Now I don't feel so smart.

My brain is totally somewhere that is else.

Also, you gave us two presents. The Link for me, and a box of newspaper for Ginny. She is getting a kick out of it as I write this.

That's limited edition newspaper, sent all the way to you from the Osage Nation reservation in Oklahoma! You can probably read all about the upcoming elections and do a word-search using pictograms.

Anyway, glad you like it, and super-glad that Ginny likes her box.

Well, for better or worse, etsy shop opened! Check us out at spykercreations.etsy.com.

Oh, and Jan, I am currently working on a design for ear cuffs (and maybe clip-ons), so there will be something for non-pierced ears! Sooner than later, I hope.

EL as soon as I get a paycheck I'm totally going to scoop up a flower pendant! It's so pretty, and I love the way it sits!

As I procrastinate and flat out avoid working on the schedule of summer reading program events (a bad thing, to be sure), I turn to the warm, comforting arms of Arts & Crafts. Behold, my penis-less* giant dolphin.

Image

*Not that I would make one with a penis but it occurs to me some may mistake my taking artistic licenses with a killer whale's spots/coloring as something more adult-themed.

Killer whales are giant dolphins*

you look like you have small feet that are really far away so clearly you are very tall. ;) good ole wide angles lens.

*learned it on jeopardy.

They may look farther away because I had to hold my arm up to get the whole whale in (only, you'll note I was a little off as my feet weren't supposed to be in the picture and his dorsal fin was).

My feet are, however, on the small side. 6-6.5 depending on brand...so about a 4-4.5 in men's sizes.

This counts as craftiness because it's something I do for creativity, goshdarnit, even if it's entirely virtual!

Since they're huge, hosted on my DeviantArt, and I don't want to rehost them somewhere else while scaling them, I'll just directly link them:

Something I've always found cool are 3D versions of 2D pixel art. It's not unusual to see postings of a 3D "old-school" Mega Man on wallpaper sites, etc., so I decided to make a few of my own, mostly to practice rendering, but also for some cool wallpapers that I can be proud of.

Here are a couple I've done:

Classic NES Link holding up the Lvl 2 Sword (was it the Master Sword? I can't remember)
The New Batman logo, pixelized
The Half-Life lambda logo, stolen directly from the original 32x32 icon
Captain Comic, my first ever video game that was my own.

These are super-fun to make, pretty fast, kind of tedious, and just give me an "I'm doing crafts!" feeling, so I felt like it belonged here.

Do labor intensive culinary concoctions count as a craft?

I made my first pineapple flowers over 5-6 hours yesterday. I am relatively satisfied with the result, although I am itching to do a new batch immediately and tweak the process, hopefully yielding better flowers.

That's crazy! I actually thought they were flowers at first. Do you just, like, set them over something rounded and dehydrate them, or what?

How on earth did you do that? They're so pretty! I've been kinda mad at cupcakes because it seems that no matter what I do with them, I can't quite get the decorations i'm trying to work.

I think it's time to start playing with cupcakes again, it's been a couple of weeks : )

Those are incredible, Kelly. And, for the record, waaaay prettier than the cupcakes I've had from the local overpriced sweets bakery.

No kidding, those look amazing. Wow.

Seriously, how do you make them? I'm kind of dying to know.
