Web Comics

Because we aren't nerdy enough!

I'm a webcomic junkie. I don't read all that many, but the ones I do read I keep up with religiously. My three favourites are Something*Positive, Wapsi Square and Questionable Content.

The great thing about all of those is how drastically the art style has changed since they started.

So what are your favourites? Who do you empathize with? What webcomics do you hate?

Hehe, almost every time I get online, I run through my webcomic bookmarks.

Penny Arcade is a classic.

I'm also a huge fan of Questionable Content.

*possible spoiler warning*

I really want Marten to be with Faye, though, and my next choice would be Hannelore.

*/spoilers*

Of course Megtokyo, although it's getting less and less interesting.

Possibly my favorite is 8 Bit Theater. It's fairly immature, but it's really funny, and I love the visual style.[/url]

I am Faye. Yesterday, I was this Faye. And this one. I have proclaimed to everyone I know that I am a Sexy Thing.

*SPOILER*

See, I'm rather a fan of Dora and Marten. Dora amuses me.

*/SPOILER*

Now I'm going to have to go read those ones you suggested and get addicted!

Ctrl+Alt+Del, Questionable Content, and Applegeeks would be my main ones. I might re-add Mac Hall to the list if they ever start updating frequently again.

How could I forget Least I Could Do?! I love this comic! The art style has really changed on this one.

And if you like Questionable Content, you'll probably be into Something*Positive. It's a little darker, but a lot of the same humour. Boy-punching occurs.

it's like you're all taking the ones that i check all the time... i'll post my list tomorrow. i read them when i'm at work. there's like 30 that i read. (i get bored at work.)

other than that, i'm thinking of starting a webcomic based on my band. sort of a "for musicians" type of thing. i've already got some pretty good caricatures of my bandmates. we'll see where this goes.

But the real question is, do you do the actual punching motions, as well?

Zero, the punching motions are mandatory, for I am a Sexy Thing and one cannot achieve Sexy Thingness without punching motions.

In other news: I hate whichever one of you told me to read Ctrl+Alt+Del. I just got to 2004.

I cannot believe I forgot to mention 1/0 (archive link), which is possibly my most favoritest thing ever. It has ended now, but it still gives me some enjoyable re-reads.

I also forgot to mention Bunny, which I occaisionally check out.

Also, I just noticed this the last part of this...
So what are your favourites? Who do you empathize with? What webcomics do you hate?
I cannot stand (off the top of my head):
PVP
Penny Arcade (Tycho and Gabe seem cool themselves, I just don't like their comics)
VG Cats
CTRL-ALT-DEL

Wow, all gaming comics. I never noticed that before.

I've got my own that I do. It's okay. The drawing could be improved upon and so forth, but it's decent for a newbie.

I felt like mentioning some additions to my list.

Three Panel Soul, the successor to MacHall
Altermeta is updating again! (it was on hiatus when I made my old list)
Gone With the Blastwave (currently "taking a break")

And last but not least, Dresden Codak, quite possibly the most all-around awesome of the comics I've recently looked at. And he's just started going full-time! I should buy some of his stuff soon.

My husband likes "The outsider" I don't have the link, he does. It hasn't published in awhile, but the art is stunning.

Last week I was reading MegaTokyo through the archives. When Kimiko stood up for Piro on the radio, (in and around #700) that was the most depressing thing ever, because that's just like me. I need a freight train of hints before I can gain enough courage to call a girl. It was like the internet was telling me: "Slim, get a life." So, I've been using a lot less internet for the last while. Who would have thunk that a webcomic would help me sort out my priorities???

--------------

Girl (thinking): Why won't Slim ask me out? I've been dropping tons of hints that I really would like him to!!

Me (thinking): I want to ask that girl out... But she has been dropping hints that she doesn't want to... If only I knew it was safe!!

I just now read this when I was skimming over, zero, and I totally agree with you on PvP, VG Cats, and Ctrl+Alt+Del. Don't know why you can't stand them, but the comics are often enough rants against minuscule problems in games. I recently erupted in rage over the CAD guy's essay on why Guitar Hero III doesn't count as a real sequel. Can't stand the guys who makes 'em, can't stand the comics.

As for Penny Arcade, well, I won't bother arguing. It's cool if you don't like it.

But my possibly favorite webcomic of all time is RPG World: http://www.rpgworldcomic.com/. Just thought I'd throw that out there, because there are enough super-long lists on here. Ian J's influence goes far and wide.

Yeah, actually, putting that with all of the others may have been a bit strong. I don't really hate PA; I just see them, and don't find them funny. But the others, when I see them, sometimes they send me into a mild rage.

Oh, here's another one I haven't seen anyone put, probably my second favorite webcomic of all time, and one that I don't think anyone ever has ever heard of. It's called Kota's World, it doesn't really make sense at first, the quality lags in both art and storytelling towards the beginning, the author tends to go into deep bouts of depression, but I love it, and I don't think I've ever actually told anyone about it before. So, here you go, guys, my hidden treasure:

http://www.nightgig.com/sweatshop/kotas ... e=19991225

And if it doesn't live up to your expectations, well, I'm a fragile person, so don't hit too hard, lest I shatter.

If anyone is interested, Shaenon Garrity is re-running Narbonic with "director's commentary". There's lots of interesting tidbits in there, like did you know Shaenon actually won a contest to name the baby rat creature in "Bone"?

Anyway, go here

Thank you (and curse you for taking all of my time!). This has a very... interesting style. I'm like halfway through and I'm just now realizing what all of the *ota names stand for. It's odd to have no idea what's really happening for 400 comics and yet still be interested enough to keep reading. My only gripe so far is spelling errors. They bother me more than they should in comics, I think. It can be a bit ridiculous, but it has been very enjoyable thus far.

By the way, what is your favorite comic, then? After Kota's World you're going to disappoint me if you say something mainstream...

Edit: There are also numerous things mentioned I've never even heard of before, like aquaphiles. And does 'yippi' actually represent something real?
