President Hinkley Dies at Age 97

He was a great man and he will be missed by all who have been touched by his life. I'm glad he can be with his dear wife again (she passed away in 2004).

My condolences are with you. This must be a very upsetting thing for your church.

Out of curiosity, how do they decide the next president?

That about sums it up. One important (I think) piece of information that is missing is that when the Quorum of the 12 meets to select and sustain the new President, they stay in that meeting until all are in agreement. It's not a majority vote thing.

I'm so sorry for everyone who's touched by his loss. I remember feeling utterly bereft when John Paul II died, and I'm sorry you have to go through the same thing.

I'm glad the world had President Hinkley as long as we did. At the last General Conference, I think during one of his talks, I thought to myself, This man is 97 years old. He might not have as much time left.

One interesting thing, apparently LDS High Schoolers all over the nation forwarded text-messages to each other saying to dress in Sunday clothes to honor his memory to school the day after his death. (12 hours later) I guess since I go to college, I got left out of the loop just like all the other adults.

And, since I live in Utah, it was interesting that his passing wasn't just front-page news: it was almost all of section A. (covering life accomplishments, etc.)

One of those articles talked about succession to the presidency which I really liked, and it said it got it from lds.org, but I couldn't find it. I typed a section into google, and found the article quoted again somewhere else.

That reminds me of when I was in Utah when his wife passed away, and her death was round the clock coverage.

it sounds like he had a long and fufilled life, my regards go out to the mormon church.

It was an extreme shock to everyone in my household. I can barely remember when he wasn't my family's living prophet.

Slim; where in Utah do you live?

I live in Layton.

Yeah, I kind of remember President Benson & President Hunter from when I was in Primary. Then I realized, President Hinckley has been the President of the church for half my life!

Thank you all for your kind words.

The funeral today was truly a special thing to watch. In fact, it was the first time I've cried over it. I really missed his presence on the earth today, but it was so heart-warming to hear so many kind words and funny stories.

I love you, President Hinkley. Thank you for your life and service.

The new President has been named: Thomas Monson. Hopefully he will do God's will well in his new role.

Not the place, eri. What I meant is that hopefully he will be obedient to God in this new role.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I'll fork it.
