We really love the color, too. I'm really happy!

Yes, that is pink and chocolate brown! Brian says the room looks like neapolitan ice cream. :) I'm going to be putting on a 2nd coat of pink tonight and then Brian's going to install some white chair rail to separate the 2 colors. I also need to find fabric to sew curtains for the window and the closet (we're taking the doors down). Then it's just a matter of arranging and accessorizing!

I love this thread so much, and have been so conflicted over whether or not to post in it. Our apartment is SO unfinished right now (nothing hanging, missing/mismatched furniture, etc) that I've been hesitant to put any pictures up.

I need a project to keep myself busy, today, though. So maybe I'll do some cleaning and take a few pictures and do a post. They can be my "before" shots!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

I know I'm totally dominating this thread, but we're working on SO many projects before the baby comes, and I want to share the coolness of them. I'm sorry if you're sick of me and my pictures!

This is the pirate bed that my Dad built for the boys. I think it's beyond amazingly awesome! (Also notice the blue walls in the background. It's the same room as the mural, so the other 3 walls are painted as water.)

Image

The headboard has built-in reading lights on top and bottom so both boys can read. The headboard is also carved with the Pirate phrase "Fair Winds and Following Seas." Each step of the ladder is carved with a rank on a Pirate Ship, starting at the bottom: Cabin Boy, Deckhand, Boatswain, Carpenter, Navigator, First Mate, Captain.

Alright Alea, here's the first part of stuff we've gathered for when we actually get to move out on our own.

Two sets of dishes (I love my dishes)
A set of pots and pans
Glasses
Waffle iron
Coffee maker
Electric griddle
Blender
Some coffee mugs (i'm getting addicted to collecting them...)
Spring form pan
Angel food cake pan
Some kitchen utensils

I think that's about it for kitchen stuff. We also have two reclining chairs (a green on and a maroon one) but they're buried along with a kitchen table (that'll do for now).

I'm sure there's more, but a lot of it has been put away and i'm not quite sure where, it'll show up in time.

I've showed you mine, now you show me yours! : )

Twinny! Me, too! <3

I've showed you mine, now you show me yours! : )

I will do so after soccer practice and after I look at yours more closely. :) I already took pictures but I like the way you did it better, so I'll do it as display-ish as I can.

*happy dance* Thanks for posting that; I love it.

I was going to take pictures of everything individually, but then we decided to gather everything together and put it in one place, so you got a group picture!

*laughs* After getting a closer, longer look, I feel I've been very unpractical in my choices thus far. You have stuff that I can see being used fairly often (and stuff I want...I drooled a little over your blender) whereas mine was purchased mostly when I was new to teaching, making enough money that I felt enough at ease with going "Oooh, that's pretty/colorful...I can make it work."

I tried to take it as a group picture but it didn't work out and I wasn't up to playing Tetris. Sorry about all the images/links. :(

8 Goblets (2 x Red, Green, Blue, Purple)
2 teapots, 1 Creamer, 1 Sugar thingy, 3 teacups w/3saucers, 3 mugs
9 Wine glasses (4 x silver stem and clear glass, 1 x clear stem and purple/red/green/blue/tealish)
2 pitchers (1 x Mr Koolaid kind minus face, 1 x decorative, taller)
2 Oil thingies with spouts
1 set of salt and pepper grinder
14 coffee mugs
3 bowls (1 x red, blue, lime green)
6 plates (3 smaller purple, 3 bigger red, blue, lime green)
1 set of forks/knives
1 carafe

I love how colorful everything is! I love your wall candle display thing! I always see those is the catalogs that come to the house, they're so awesome!

You have a lot of the fun stuff that I can wait to buy once I have the extra money. Also, a lot of the appliances have been Christmas presents and birthday presents (I would have spent the money on tea pots and cool candle holders!).

I want shelves so bad, but really have nowhere to store them right now. I also don't have any silverware (and no Will, we can't just use plastic). I've always wanted a tea pot, but I don't drink tea, so i've been putting of buying one because it would be for decoration, or whenever I needed boiling water (I guess).

I can't wait to buy things like key hooks, towels, silverware, toothbrush holder, candle holders, rugs, KITCHEN AID MIXER, and pretty much everything else. It's addicting...

Just curious, but why not drink tea? Also, teapot =/= kettle. If you want boiled water, you need a kettle. A teapot is more like a pitcher for hot liquids. Tea is good. We have many teapots. Possibly too many. Maybe tomorrow I will take pictures of them, as well as of our rockin' wine glasses and our quilts.

You should take pictures EL, I love tea pots! I also did not know that tea pots wern't for boiling water

I've never found a tea that i've liked. I even had a teacher back in high school make me about eight different teas because I told him this, and I didn't like any of those. I'm not oppose to trying tea, i've just never found one that works for me.

I have a teapot rather like the black one there. Actually, we have something of an excess of teapots. And kettles -- although less so on that count.

I will drink tea to be polite and occasionally it is pleasant, but my philosophy has always been, "why drink tea when coffee is an option?" In general I prefer green and herbal teas to black teas.

Often I don't trust other people's coffee. I also don't necessarily trust that their tea will be good, either, but in those cases they usually offer me a tea bag and I can take it out when it's done.

That, and often I find tea is more relaxing than coffee.

Warning! Picture heavy!

As promised, our many teapots:

Our two most-used pots. The steel one has a mesh strainer in it for loose tea. You can see the strainer in the glass one, too. We drink a lot of loose tea. The glass one is sitting on top of a cast-iron tea warmer. You can also see one of our bazillion fountain pens in the bottom of the picture.
Image

Another one, your basic ceramic model.
Image

A more Asian style of pot, but we hardly ever use it because it's too small.
Image

We inherited this one from my great-aunt. It has a matching creamer, but I forgot to put it in the photo.
Image

And finally, this is my teapot which I had to leave in England. It's probably my favourite ever.
Image

These are our wine glasses. They also came from my great-aunt.
Image

Another important aspect of hominess for me is quilts. I grew up with a quilting-addicted mother, so if it don't have a mom-quilt, it ain't home. This is our warm winter one, made (almost) entirely from corduroy. It's heavy and so, so warm.
Image

And this is our wedding quilt. When my mom was asking about what sort we wanted, the best we could come up with was "stained glass looks pretty cool". This is the result.
Image
Image

Some of our cookbooks! The one half-hidden on the far left is "How to Make Love and Dinner at the Same Time", a slowcooker book, and the one with the blue spine and little round thingies is my hand-written recipe book with my favourites in it. The book was a gift for Christmas and came with recipes and poems and memories and is very special to me. The cover is a mock-up of an illuminated medieval bible, Genesis 1. "The Accidental Vegetarian" is a freaking awesome book and should be owned by everyone who likes food, not just vegetarians.
Image

And finally, some of the random detritus that lives on our windowsill. Left to right: candle, paraffin lamp, candle, ash tray (?? - also from my great aunt), candlesticks, heritage basil seeds, ash trays, candlestick, scented oil burner, Christmas card, mini Clarecraft Discworld pewters, ivory Victorian clock face, bike computer.

So, this is love...*hums* That is the best teapot ever. I loved the wine glasses, too.

Haha, awesome! We're thinking of giving ours away when we move. We never use it, and the lid has a slight chip in it. Problem is, no one we know has any need for another teapot. Probably to the Salvation Army with it...

Silly boy. We are keeping the elephants. They are way too awesome to lose. My mother keeps insisting there's a sugar bowl, but we haven't found it yet. It may have gotten lost when my aunt died.

Here's a little bit of my apartment:

Part of the living room into the dining room.

The dining room (the door on the right goes through to the kitchen).

In addition to books, we keep a lot of little knick-knacks on those shelves, like this little pomegranate-shaped box that my friend brought back from Cambodia for me.

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

*big huge sigh* Mixer...

Anyways, is that a magnetic knife holder? I've seen those online before and have wondered how well they actually work.

It is a magnetic knife holder screwed into the wall. It was David's project. I was EXTREMELY skeptical at first--terrified the knives wouldn't hold and there'd be some accidents, or that the cat would jump up there and knock them off.

My fears have melted away. This thing ROCKS. Very, very, very secure. And it's SO wonderful to have my knives a). easily accessible instead of jumbled up in some drawer and b). not taking up counter space in a knife block! We do most of our chopping, etc on the kitchen island directly below the knife rack, so it's just so, so convenient.
