I think I'm 5'4" but I haven't checked in a while. Since neither of my parents are over 5'7" I don't think I'm growing much more. But it's okay--I've embraced my slightly-below-average height. The fact that I could wear 4" heals and still be shorter than my prom date was amazing.

So, just out of curiosity, how many of you ladies would be okay with dating a shorter man? Conversely, how many guys would date a taller lady?

My mom is your height, Alea. And my dad? 6'4".
Aww. That's sort of what I'm going for. Or at least, how things keep (and hopefully continue) working out.

it's an interesting question I've wondered about myself. The only time I've come across girls that were taller than me were USC basketball players, I think I would find it awkward, it's too embedded in our culture not to at least acknowledge that. but I like to think that'd I'd be willing to go into a relationship with a taller girl with an open mind.

To be honest, I don't think I'd want to date a taller woman. It's not a deal-breaker, but I'd have to like her an awful lot to overlook it.

Well it's not like Alea's going to find a shorter man either unless she moves to the Shire, but this is all hypothetical.

Playing along, no, I wouldn't date a shorter guy but I don't think anyone can really blame me for that.

I probably wouldn't date a guy who was significantly shorter than me. It's a matter of finding (or not finding, as the case may be) them attractive.

My height or taller, please.

To be honest, I think it would sort of turn me off. I dated a guy once who was exactly my height and that was hard enough--it's why I never learned to walk in heels actually. A guy's height wouldn't be a deal-breaker, certainly. You love who you love and I'm certainly not about to be stubborn about a thing like that. And it DOES make it harder as I've noticed that suddenly I'm a lot taller than most of the men I know. (perhaps the pollution in the city stunts their growth?) My boyfriend is about five inches taller than me, which is pretty much perfect.

It's nothing to do with the guy, really. It's this ancient code programed in me. I want to be smaller than the man I'm dating because I am secretly a 50's housewife and want to feel petite and protected and all of that good stuff. It's not anything I consciously desire, but the instinct is really strong in me.

Conversely, I once dated a guy who was SEVEN FEET, THREE INCHES. The relationship didn't work out (height was not the deal-breaker there, either) but lemme tell ya, that was WEIRD. He could stick his arms straight out and I could stand beneath it without touching it with the top of my head. Crazy! And uncomfortable for kissing.

Same here. If she's taller but beautiful in any other way (or I love her) then it's ok; otherwise I don't think I'll take it.

I really wouldn't be fussed. I like the hugging convenience of being a tiny bit shorter (just more comfortable), but I wouldn't have a problem dating a shorter guy.

I know what you mean, from a guy's perspective. We want to feel like protectors. Being with a taller woman diminishes that feeling somewhat. It's an instinctual thing.

I am soooo with you about the 50's housewife!

I'm about 5'9", and my boyfriend is 6'1" or 2"ish. My father is 6'2" and my mother is 5'7".

I brought that up, but it might be a sensitive topic for some. I don't care though. I'm about 163 lbs. give or take a pound.

Incidentally I'm almost exactly the same size as Spider-man. Not Tobey Maguire, I mean the actual character. According to Marvel's official stats he's 5'10", 165 lbs. Why do I know that? What else is wikipedia for?

I'm over-weight for my height bracket and the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I was around 155-160ish for my late teens and early 20s, which I was more than pleased with given my height and body-shape. After things with Henry got rough I packed on a couple pounds, and then packed on more after/during the breakup. I'm currently working on losing it again--although it's such a bitch to lose weight! I'll be happy to get back down to 160ish.

Currently 105, which is what I was nearly 15 years ago when I graduated HS. In the meantime, my all-time high was 140. But I tend to lose my appetite and thus weight in times of stress, which is what the last 2-3 years have been.

I currently weigh 131, which I've actually been keeping track of, because I've been working out for the first time ever (regularly). My (apparently) super-low weight has actually thrown off my judgment of normal weight for guys; I've always assumed 130-140 was normal for guys of average height, but now I'm realizing why people describe me as "gangly."

I fall somewhere in the 130-140 range. I suspect I may be on the lower end of that right now, but I'm not sure. I don't keep a scale in the house, and when I was growing up we never kept a scale, either, so my weight has always been a thing of guesswork based on the last time I was able to check.

Currently, I'm not exactly sure. Probably somewhere between 120 and 130.

The highest I've been is 140 (sophomore year of college). The lowest I've been is 105 (senior year of high school.)

Hooray! I may be one of the shorter guys here, but at least I'm far from the skinniest. No offense, guys. It's just that all the 6'+ guys hurt my self esteem. I've honestly never thought of myself as short before . And I've been lifting weights regularly since my early teens in order to bulk up my naturally thin (but athletic) build. 5 years ago I didn't think I'd ever weigh more than 150 lbs. I'm quite happy to be over 160 now.

Neo, believe me when I say that I feel short, too, because I've spent so much of my life hearing that the average is taller than I appear to have reached.

I'd probably still be taller than her on my knees.

As for weight, it's been awhile but last I checked I was about 270. I wouldn't be surprised if it were closer to 280 or 290 now. It'd be nice if I could get down around 220, though I'd settle for 240-50.

I wanna be 185-195

the lowest I've ever been was 196. I got there with a lot of hard work in my sophmore year, and after the four months it took me to get their I finally succumbed to the four months of criticism and endless negativity and nonstop discouragement from my girlfriend and stopped working out Gained it back and hovered at 205 for about four years, in the last year I've added five to ten pounds and hover between 210 and 215. I hate that my new apartment complex doesn't have a fitness center.

I can usually be found in the 138-142 range, but I'm almost positive that I've gained about 5 lbs since the start of the semester. Generally I'm happy with my weight, but I do get the occasional "OMG, I need to drop a few pounds" which I'm fairly certain all women get at one point or another.

I'm about 5'10", which I'm perfectly happy with. It's not too tall, and it's not too short. I do tend to end up with fairly short girls, and I'm not sure why that is.

As far as weight, I weigh 155 lbs. Since my junior year of high school (6 years ago), I don't think my weight has shifted more than 5 pounds up or down. It may have gotten above 160 briefly when I was lifting weights regularly. Other than that, I eat whatever I want, do whatever I want, it doesn't matter, I don't gain or lose weight.

You can all start hating me now. :D

I'm 5' 6 1/2" and I'm currently weighing in at 155. That's only 5 lbs more than when I got pregnant the first time, although it's 25 lbs more than when I got married. I was too skinny when I got married though, so that doesn't bother me too much. I think I look best when I weigh around 140.

I'm 5'9. And I'm all for the 5'9 is the average height for guys, neo. I weigh any where from 180-190 depending on the day you catch me. I don't think that I have ever been the "right" weight. Growing up I was always underweight, not for lack of eating a bunch of crap. Somewhere is high school I jumped from underweight to overweight, probably when I started drinking. I have been trying to get into a workout schedule which I'm struggling with but we'll see how it goes.

About the dating a taller women, my ex was the exact same height as me. She's wasn't the type to wear heels, so she was rarely taller than me. But if we went to a wedding or something together, than she would have heels and be taller. I didn't that it would matter but the first time she had heels on it effected me more than I thought it would, but I got over it. So, I think I would be okay with dating some one taller.

260. I'm tall and stocky to the point that most people don't listen to me if I point how overweight I am. I've a very Nordic build.
